When in New Orleans, get delicious beignets at Morning Call Coffee Stand. They are always fresh and hot and unlike many places, bring them to your table without the powderd sugar which keeps them crisp. You can then sprinkle on as much as you want. The atmosphere at the Severen location is not like Cafe de Monde but it is worth it to enjoy these New Orleans delicacies. A new location opened in City Park which is more convenient if you don't have a car as you can take the Canal Street Trolley and enjoy the museum, sculpture park and beignets all in one visit. I definitely want to try it on my next visit.

The first Beignet I had and I fell in LOVE!!!!! We had one in the French Quarter the next day that tasted like a donut so I realized that no two are made the same. We stopped there on a tour bus so we only had a few minutes otherwise I may not have left!!! The uniforms, the bar stools the outside seating.....JUST WONDERFUL. Go!

I'ved always gone to Cafe du Monde when visiting NOLA until I had a chance to go to the newly opened City Park branch. This is waaayyy better than the touristy & sometimes soggy Cafe du Monde beignets. MC have a slightly crispy beignet and taste better....worth the calories.

Always open, always great and waiters/waitresses are saints to keep smiling/serving despite some less than polite customers who take up a table for an hour and run the staff ragged for their $4.90 check. Then they don't even tip. Mostly, just great place to stop.

Morning Call was a staple in the French Quarter for 24 hour coffee and beignets until it moved out to Metarie. I always preferred it to the Cafe du Monde when both were located in the French Market. However, when they moved they took the wonderful 19th Century decor with them and everything is still the same except for the location. Even if you are staying downtown, It is worth a special trip or a slight detour when going to and from the airport.
