Starry, starry night
Paint your palette blue and gray
Look out on a summer's day
With eyes that know the darkness in my soul
Shadows on the hills
Sketch the trees and the daffodils
Catch the breeze and the winter chills
In colors on the snowy linen land
Now, I understand, what you tried to say to me
And how you suffered for your sanity
And how you tried to set them free
They would not listen, they did not know how
Perhaps they'll listen now
This is a tough review to write. We are spending a weekend eating our way through New Orleans and staying outside the Quarter.
Vincent's looked like a good choice as we had a taste for Italian. The menu looked great, and in addition to a location in the CBD, this store was Metarie, just a few miles from our airport hotel. The GPS started to take us into a residential neighborhood, probably due to more funky Louisiana traffic planning and we arrived at Vincent's, a modest two story building with a modest sign declaring the name.
By the door in the parking lot was a red corvette with the vanity tag CUISINE and a guest who was leaving said the owner was inside, which we liked. Less than 10'seconds from walking through the door, a short Italian man walks up and extends his hand. I questioned , "Vincent?" and he said, "I know you!" But no I wasn't who he thought, but never the less, after a 20 minute wait we sat down for dinner in an intimate room by the bar.
Our server, we learned had been there 17 years, since she was 15; had her PhD in microbiology, and was leaving soon to move to Seattle. Vincent came to our table and helped us make our selections, telling us that the Cannelloni and the Ossobucco would be the best we had or would ever have... We did, and while never say never the Cannelloni without question knows no equal. We had the artichoke Rose of Sicily which is like nothing you will find anywhere, and of course it tingled the palate. Stuffed (we were) in between we had the corn and crab soup in a bread bowl. We ordered but cancelled the lasagna because everything was so rich and we felt too at this point.
We got canolli's to go.... But I haven't eaten them yet :-).
Something special happened when we got our check. I'm not sure what happened but I questioned why it was so little. Our server told us that Vincent got us a couple of dishes!
We wonder if he was swayed by my girlfriends response to his statement to her that she looked familiar? It will remain our joke.
You will see us again Vincent!
We give this place 5 + 5, and we are serious foodies!
They would not listen,
they did not know how
Perhaps they'll listen now....
