My husband and I decided to do something really touristy and try the swamp tour on our last day in NOLA. We thought it would be cheesy and boring....WE WERE WRONG! We booked the 12 person airboat tour, but when we arrived they put us on the 6 person boat. We were lucky enough to have the owner as our captain, and he really gave us quite the education regarding the swamps/marshes. He was funny and engaging and really made it an exceptional experience for us.

We arranged for a New Orleans City Tour that cost $44 per person although we were supposed to get a discount of $4 which the bus driver refused to honor. They were one hour late picking us up at the hotel. After the hour wait for pick-up, the bus driver then collected money from each person on the bus, then he had to call into the office and call off each person who had paid. This delayed the tour even more. A lot of the commentary along the tour was recommendations for restaurants. The best part of the tour was the St. Louis #1 Cemetery, but we were only there 10 minutes; the remainder of the trip was on the bus.

We took a swamp tour with the Louisiana Tour Company while on our first trip to New Orleans. After doing a lot of research on the various companies and tours offered, our hotel actually recommended this one. They came to pick us up right outside our hotel, then made a variety of other hotel stops and finally travelling about 30min to the swamp. Overall the tour was fantastic. It was a beautiful day out and we had reserved the covered boat. Maybe a little bit pricey for what you actually get, but i think that comes with any tourist attraction. It was really great...gots lots of tidbits about the past history of the land and reserve. Our guide was born and raised in the area, so he also talked lots about the changes over the years and Katrina. Saw tons of alligators, and even got to hold a baby one!! Who would have known they are attracted to marshmellows!!!

The price of these tours was very competitive. We did a combination plantation/city tour. We had three different drivers (due to logistical requirements) and they were all GREAT! My only complaint is that we were not allowed enough time at the plantation (Laura Plantation). We basically exited the bus, used the restroom, toured the plantation, used the restroom and got back on the bus. I think we were there about an hour, just not enough time to visit this beautiful location. The city tour was interesting, especially the post Katrina part of the tour.

This was so much fun!! I had never been on an airboat before or for that matter been in a swamp. We chose the smaller airboat which allows for 6 people. First off they pick you up at hotel, which is a bonus because I dont think I could have found it. Judy, our driver to Crown Point was hilarious and very knowledgeable. Great asset to the company! When you arrive you have plenty of time for potty break and drinks. I didnt know you could have brought a cooler! If you do go Take cooler of beverages. Jay was our Captain! Great guide! Very experienced and engaging. Learned lots of facts abt alligators and the ecosystem. Overall great tour. A MUST DO when in New Orleans. Cant wait to go again!
