I found this hotel online and decided to call to make the reservation so that I could request a room with a handicapped bathtub. The lady who took our 3 night reservation was very nice. After driving 6 hours, we finally arrived at about 1:30am. When I went to check in, the "open" sign was lit up but there were no lights on in the lobby. However, there was a sign in the door that said to ring the bell in the window for service. I rang the bell and waited for a couple of minutes, there was no response. I rang again several times within the next 10 minutes or so. There was never a response. Unfortunately, I had no cell service in the town. I went across the street to another hotel and the desk clerk was very friendly. She offered to let me use her phone. I called Super8 and it rang and rang...no answer! I decided to stay at Comfort Inn, the hotel that allowed me to use their phone. The rate at Comfort in was $18 per night higher, but I was so tired and had no way of checking into the room that we reserved at the Super8. The next morning I used the phone in our hotel room to call Super8 to explain what happened and to make sure that they didn't charge my card. The lady who answered the phone stated that the night clerk goes into a room at night to sleep and doesn't take the phone with her because it needs to stay at the desk. She told me that I needed to press the button for service. I let her know that I had done that and nobody ever showed up. She didn't seem to care or empathize at all. The only response she gave was that she wouldn't charge my card and she would have the night clerk check the batteries in the button. I have worked in customer service for 14 years and was appalled at the lack of responsibility or care that I was shown. This is bad business! I am thankful that the Comfort Inn was able to meet my needs so professionally and went out of their way to make us feel at home during our stay. I really wish that I could say the same about Super8. By talking with people around the small town, my experience with Super8 doesn't seem out of the ordinary. I have been told by multiple people that the night clerk goes to sleep and is unable to assist customers. Something should really be done about this...and fast.
