What a great weekend at the Marvilla Guest House. The location is great, adjacent to great dining and blocks away from the Lake and Trace. The proprietor could not have been any kinder. Super clean and comfortable. Reasonable rates given the unique location. The front gallery was great and reminiscent of old world Creole charm. We can't wait to return.

We traveled to Mandeville, La., just across Lake Pontchartrain from New Orleans, for the Great Louisiana BirdFest and fell in love with the Marvilla Guest House. Its three rooms have individual private entrances and open on a long porch, which is ideal for reading the morning paper or having an evening adult beverage. Each room has a coffee maker and a small refrigerator, as well as cable TV. We had a big comfortable bed and a nicely equipped bathroom, everything we needed. Laid-back host Michael O’Brien made us feel at home and provided lots of suggestions for things to see and do in town. There are plenty of good restaurants nearby, as well as antique shops and boutiques and we borrowed two Marvilla bicycles to explore a portion of the Tammany Trace, a 31-mile recreational trail. Our plan had been to stay three nights and move on, but we enjoyed the Marvilla (and Mandeville) so much, that we stayed for five more nights!
