Description: Ristorante Carmelo Fomerly located in the French Quarter has moved to a new location 1901 Hwy 190 Mandeville La 70448. It is a new Italian polished casual open kitchen family friendly restaurant. We make our own Pasta, bread, pizza dough , serve louisiana seafood fresh daily and hand cut are prime steaks. We have monthly wine dinners and prefixe menus for large groups. We host rehearsal dinners and parties for all occassions. There is a chef table where carmelo will feed you a 5 course dinner . There is patio dining and plenty of parking.

Many folks have misconceptions as to what geniune Italian food is. leaning on pizza, spaghetti, lasagna, canneloni, etc. as exemplars. Having eaten Italian food in Italy, the food is fresh, made with seasonally available ingredients, differs by region and is not smothered in tomato sauce. Carmelo serves fabulous Italian food. For our dinner this past Saturday, we ordered the mussels prepared in white wine, broth and seasonings as an appetizer. The dish was exquisite! In fact, we wanted to tear up a loaf of bread to sop up the broth. It was that good. Carmelo's fish dishes are excellent, too. Grouper prepared with white wine, spices, artichoke hearts, mushrooms and capers, served over fresh spinach, yellow fin tuna seared to perfection and served with a basil-citrus glaze-what's not to like. All of the pasta at Carmelo is homemade. My favorite pasta sauce is the mushroom and black truffle. Try it, you'll like it. However, since every dish is made fresh to order, expect a short wait for your food. Enjoy a glass of wine from the bountiful wine cellar there as you wait. And after dinner, try the chamomile-infused grappa as a digestif. Perfecto!

It's a decent looking place. The service is just okay--can be slow at times. The portions are small. The food is very average. It looks like it should be better than it is.

We've eaten here quite a few times and have to say, every time was excellent. One of our favorites is the meat pizza with homemade italian sausage, capacola and pepperoni. It"s absolutely fabulous! It's our two boys' (ages 12 and 9) favorite. The pasta dishes are delicious as well. We love the wine selection. Many great Italian wines to choose from and the ambiance is lovely for a night out. Every waiter and waitress we have come in contact with was very pleasant and knowledgeable. A wonderful experience!

Everything here tastes good, but the prices are high, the atmosphere and service are average and there are better Italian and pizza options nearby that are as good or better for less.

True mainland Italian style cuisine. Great pizzas. Beautiful open kitchen. Outdoor seating, weather permitting. Wine room. Known for wine dinners. Have had many wonderful meals here. The restaurant moved from the tourist world of the French Quarter. The Quarter's loss is certainly a great gain for the Northshore area.
