Many folks have misconceptions as to what geniune Italian food is. leaning on pizza, spaghetti, lasagna, canneloni, etc. as exemplars. Having eaten Italian food in Italy, the food is fresh, made with seasonally available ingredients, differs by region and is not smothered in tomato sauce. Carmelo serves fabulous Italian food. For our dinner this past Saturday, we ordered the mussels prepared in white wine, broth and seasonings as an appetizer. The dish was exquisite! In fact, we wanted to tear up a loaf of bread to sop up the broth. It was that good. Carmelo's fish dishes are excellent, too. Grouper prepared with white wine, spices, artichoke hearts, mushrooms and capers, served over fresh spinach, yellow fin tuna seared to perfection and served with a basil-citrus glaze-what's not to like. All of the pasta at Carmelo is homemade. My favorite pasta sauce is the mushroom and black truffle. Try it, you'll like it. However, since every dish is made fresh to order, expect a short wait for your food. Enjoy a glass of wine from the bountiful wine cellar there as you wait. And after dinner, try the chamomile-infused grappa as a digestif. Perfecto!
