“Group lunch”
Reviewed April 15, 2013

10 people in our group. Keith Young visited with us to thank us for coming to his restaurant, and told us about his new venture in Madisonville called the Crabby Shack. The food was excellent, everyone was pleased with the freshness and quality of the food. The server was good but I have had better servesr there in the past.

“Excellent on all counts”
Reviewed February 20, 2013 via mobile

Been going to Keith Young's for several years and have always enjoyed the experience. On the weekends they get incredibly busy with a wait at the bar. The bar is very popular, too. Does this tend to slow down the drinks and service? Yes it does. I usually dine early, before 6pm. If you want to dine later, be forewarned. The filets are superb. What I find surprising is that their seafood selections are really stellar. Order a half a dozen fried oysters or shrimp with your filet and you'll be happy. The Oyster Bienville appetizer beats anything like it in New Orleans. The atmosphere is light, bright and airy as opposed to the usual "steakhouse" dark and mahogany. I like it. The only thing that I would change is the bread they serve...Keith can find something better.

“Missing Something?”
Reviewed February 6, 2013

Have you ever been to a restaurant and you know something is just not right, but can't identify exactly what the experience is missing? Enter Keith Young's Steakhouse: I have been to this restaurant several times but less frequently in recent months. The food portions seem to be getting smaller with each visit. Menu is pricey for quality, mediocre service, and obscure atmosphere. The wine list is decent and fair. The steaks in my opinion are of good quality, but they are not seasoned well. While a coupe of us at the latest meal tried the sauces with the steaks, it did not help with the lack of flavor. The scallops appetizer used to be one of the best item on the menu, but now you receive 2 small scallops and the beurre blanch sauce has changed for the worse. Spend a tad more and treat yourself to La Provence also located on the Northshore in Lacombe.

“An unexpected pleasure”
Reviewed February 4, 2013

Considering it's modest location, you would not expect such a high quality restaurant in this NOLA suburb. The atmosphere is mush like a high-end big-city place; nice dark wood, ample art on the walls, uniformed servers, etc. We were lucky to have been visiting friends who knew the place, or we would likely have missed it.

We started with an appetizer of Almond Crusted Fried Shrimp, and they were absolutely DEE-LICIOUS! Nice crispy batter, lightly fried, covered these JUMBO shrimp; enhanced by a sweet and tangy sauce. The large (a huge bowl full) was plenty for the five of us to have 3-4 shrimp apiece.

The main course, for all of us, were the signature Steaks. We ordered both ribeyes and filets; all arrived as ordered and were tender, nicely marbled and very well trimmed. Accompanying green beans had great color and were still crispy; the baked potato was perfect, not overdone like so many restaurants serve.

The servers were courteous, prompt, and solicitous; easily agreeing to any change we requested. In fact, the whole operation seemed to run with Swiss-watch-like precison. One of my friends later told me that the owner looks at every plate leaving the kitchen, and if it is not perfect, it goes back. Hard to believe, but if it IS true, that would account for the quality.

Overall, Keith Young's is a wonderful experience; and I would defintely go back on the next visit.

“Good meats and wine, bar not so good”
Reviewed January 12, 2013 via mobile

Drinks: 2 dirty martinis had no vermouth and very little olive flavor. Manhattan was serviceable but unremarkable. Appreciated non- beef alternatives, like duck, lobster, crab, etc. Steaks were well prepared, but no aged meat available, so minus one star. Pricey for what was a disappointingly uneven meal. Service was good, interesting wine list, but not to the point of saving the bar issues.
