I thoroughly enjoyed the swamp and plantation tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the swamp and the surrounding areas and also the History of NO and it's people. The driver who picked and dropped us off was also always giving us information about NO -cajuns, creoles, their land and music. I have always appreciated history and that trip made me want to find out more. Off to Amazon website to buy books.... :)

So far, the swamp tour has been really worth the money and the best experience in NO. The tour of the swamp was very slow and not rushed. You are able to take as many pictures as you want off the covered boat. Our guide Capt. Allen was very knowledgeable of the swamp and wildlife in the area. He also had a great sense of humor. We saw alligators, different kinds of birds, lots of turtles and raccoons. Chicken and marshmallows (!) are used to attack the critters towards the boat for viewing. We were able to handle a small alligator that was onboard the boat. We also saw a cemetery and old cabin and out-house. Our trip was almost 2 hrs. long. While waiting for the ride, we were able to enjoy a glass of wine ($5) under a covered patio which had rescued cats strolling around. Although a menu was posted, we didn't see any indication that is was available when we were there. The swamp area was only about 30 minute drive from the airport. Discounts are available online 24hrs before requested reservation ($18 if you drive directly to the site). The swamp tour was an enjoyable and fun experience; we'd highly recommend this to friends.

great experience, make sure you go to the La Place swamp if you want the real thing. Plenty of wild life, we held a baby allligator and saw a make shift cemetery and cabin from a time long ago.
After the swamp tour, we stayed on and did the Laura Plantation Tour. Well worth it, lots of history.
Bring food and drinks with you, there is not any extra time to get food.
The swamp and plantation combo was for about 6 hours. A great time for all ages

Going on a swamp tour was my husband's idea - I was just going along with it. But, I have to say, this swamp tour was one of the highlights of our trip to New Orleans. It is not a very long way from the city, if you have a car, and we did the swamp tour one afternoon (2 pm tour) after visiting Destrehan Plantation in the morning, and having lunch at the Seafood Pot - both on the River Road. This tour was not a long drive from our morning location.
Our captain was Captain Tom, and he was a hoot! A real Cajun - I had to listen closely to make sure I understood everything he said. He obviously knew the bayou we were on like the back of his hand. We saw tons of alligators, we saw a snapping gator turtle (apparently very rare), other turtles, green egrets - including a nest with at least one blue egg they were protecting, and a raccoon, among other wildlife. Capt. Tom had so many stories, we could have been out there all day. The stories and the wildlife started when we were just feet away from the dock where we boarded, and we never went very fast or very far - we didn't need to - it was all right there for us. Our boat only had about 15 passengers, I think, which was a perfect size. The boat is covered, so you don't get too hot. I don't want to spoil the surprises for future guests, but if you can request a captain, ask for Capt. Tom. He was experienced, and a great educator. So glad my husband suggested this adventure - well worth it!

I was a chaperone on a high school band and choir field trip to New Orleans. Among the many attractions we visited in the area was the Cajun Pride Swamp Tour, and this is the activity that the kids (and I!) enjoyed the most. After all of the rushing around we had done the previous days, it was a pleasure to go on a leisurely tour of the Louisiana bayous. We saw alligators of all sizes, including some larger ones that came right up next to the boat! The captain even fed the alligators some chicken on both sides of the boat, so everyone got a great view of the action. We also got to hold a baby alligator, which made for an awesome photo souviner. Thanks to our wonderful and very knowledgeable boat captain, we saw lots of other wildlife as well (turtles, birds, etc.) and learned a lot about the history of the area and the wildlife that we were seeing. They also have a small gift/snack shop and nice bathroom facilities. Definitely a unique must see attraction when you are in the area.
