“The Black Crowes by the pool - nice venue”
Reviewed May 28, 2013

This review is strictly for the "party by the pool" venue at which The Black Crowes performed. I was impressed. The full moon and nice May weather helped, but the layout, setting and sound at the venue was better than expected. You could stand in front of the stage, grab a lounge chair around the pool, sit in the pool, float in the lazy river, wander over the many wooden bridges/paths, or hit one of the many bars around. Prominent stage is mostly visible from everywhere; plus the big screens help. I'm not a gambler and cannot comment on the other casino amenities, except to say the Le Cafe was only OK. As with any concert, especially at a casino, people watching was premium. Though it got a little skanky as soon as the concert was over and the go-go dancers came out.

“Not Las Vegas... but decent”
Reviewed May 9, 2013

If you want a Vegas experience, go to Vegas. However, this resort hotel is very nice for Lake Charles. All of the hotel staff seemed nice and willing to help (although we were sent on a wild-goose-chase by a Concierge!). The room was just fine but without high-quality finishout which was a little surprising. The room price seemed a little high but I suppose that should be expected. The only negative thing of our stay was the Jack Daniels Bar & Grill. I wantd to review it separately but it is not yet listed.

Jack Daniels Bar & Grill: My expectations were high based on a read of the online menu before visiting. What a disappointment. The (alleged) "Kobe brisket platter" was served with four slices of fatty, gristly, not-likely-Kobe-anything-in-my-opinion brisket absolutely swimming in BBQ sauce. I have had FAR better brisket at any number of Texas BBQ spots (Cooper's in Llano, TX certainly!). Another party had the Angus Beef sliders. Three arrived. The buns were hard and, again, the BBQ was swimming in sauce. The final party at the table ordered the shrimp with grits. That party's complaint? Too much sauce. (See a trend here?) The drinks and drink options were absolutely stellar so I would suggest the place for drinks... but definitely not for dining at all.

“L'Auberge...beautiful casino and grounds..HIGH prices”
Reviewed April 2, 2013

well.....this is my first visit there, so I got $25 in free play. Great, huh? Would have been better if the payout was better. Unlike Vegas and Reno which have 97%-99% payouts, the slots were maybe 90% payout. We shopped in the gift shop also and it was a Brighton shop...great "Parfums". Cute clothes. HIGH prices.

Casino and lobbies were spacious, neat, clean. The "fan club" staff were just wonderful, helpful, friendly and every question was treated with respect. (This often does not happen to older people, we are disrespected) We plan to go back and stay at L'Auberge next time as other guests said the rooms were well worth the deal price and the food is good and no long lines! That is great for those of us who have standing problems or hip or canes....!!
