The blue trail is a lot of fun on the mountain bike. Damp sand gave great traction, but the roots can beat you up. Very little elevation change. Be careful of hikers and watch for cyclists going opposite direction. Great bargain for 1$.

Great family rv park. They have made some nice improvements sinc the 2005 hurricane. Two new playgrounds for kids, new shower houses and laundry facilities. The east rv area is paved. Couple tips for new visitors; bring a long hose and power cord extension because some of the hookups are a little far from the rv pad. Trails are very popular for hiking and mountain biking. Rv area is very shaded. Just a great park for the family. Bring the camera for nice photo ops.

We live close so we often hook up our travel trailer for a quick weekend at Sam Houston. We love this little bit of nature close by Lake Charles, Moss Bluff. The river is nice to contemplate and the cypress growing in the pond give seasonal color. There was once a deer enclosure that held tame deer but this has been taken down and the deer are very tame and wander about the camp sites. There are 2 RV sites one is less developed but closer to the water and the other is farther away from the water but paved and smoother sites. The trails are nice for hiking and there are even geocaches in the park for those who geocache. Enjoy

My husband and I stayed at this park in our RV. It was a last minute trip, so there weren't a lot of spots left open. The one we had was private, but the hook-ups were not very close. We ended up having to buy a water hose so we could connect.

We thoroughly enjoyed riding our bicycles around the park, though. It's a very, very nice park overall. In particular, we loved the cypress trees that grow in the swamp as you enter the RV area. It's also located very close to all the other attractions in Lake Charles, LA.

This a great place to get back to nature. Hiking the trails is great, we even got close to some deer and saw some alligators in the wild. We highly recommend this as a get away.
