Great food and a great chef. No food better anywhere. Southern cooking at its finest. Please try the Ceasar salad topped with crab cakes & grilled shrimp. Yummy!

I had read recent reviews on Trip Advisor that Blue Dog had let their standards slip. However my wife an I ate there two nights back to back (Fri, Sat) and only found that the difference between now and some years ago is their increased local popularity. When arriving between 6:30 and 7:30 one DOES need to book a table if one isn't prepared to wait in line. The car park is adequate but can be a problem when leaving because of the usual heavy traffic on Pinhook. The food is up to our expectation, but not being a connoisseur of local Cajun food I cannot grade it. The biggest negative is that because of its local popularity it WILL take on average 45 minutes for ones food order to come to your table. So order your appetizers and main course to arrive at the same time, or expect another 15 minute delay. The ambience is great and the diners are all discrete.

The seafood was fabulous and the live jazz music was the perfect addition to the whole cajun experience that I was hoping for. I cant say enough good things about this place. My husband and I shared the shrimp dinner and also had a cup of crawfish etouffee. It was more than enough food for us both. Then we shared the bread pudding with a pecan praline sauce.....OMG, it was heavenly! Will definatly do this place again. Teresa Lindsay - oklahoma city, okla.

The 'Blue Dog' is a famous painting by Louisiana artist George Rodrigue. We found out later (from the waitress when we asked) that this is not the official restaurant, but that a Lafayette lawyer has a deal with the artist to show the collection and to use the name.

We arrived here on a Saturday night - about 30 minutes prior to closing, and while that was cutting it close, we were seated right away and menus were given.

The ambiance of the restaurant is nice - there is plenty seating in wide open spaces and the walls are covered with pictures and painting of the famous 'Blue Dog' The place can handle large parties - there was a party of 10 sitting in our area - and can handle families as well.

I am not sure whether it was because we arrived close to closing time, but the service was very slow. We had enough time to look through the menus three or four times before our waitress came to collect our drink order (and by that time we were ready to order our meal).

We ordered and drinks were served, and we noticed that others had received complimentary bread but we had not --- this is again something we had to ask for; however, once we asked for it, it was replenished multiple times (the bread is very good).

The menu consists of seafood with cajun and creole influences -- there is seafood on everything so if you do not like seafood, than this not the restaurant for you. One entree that we ordered (which was actually an appetizer) was portabello mushroom pizza in which the pizza base was the mushroom and toppings were added (including seafood).

The food, however, was delicious, very flavorful and very well done. We were 4 and each got a different meal, and each of us said that the food was good and none could find a fault with any of the dishes.

Again, the service was slow - never did the waitress come and ask how our food was and we had to ask twice for tabasco and cocktail sauce (many times, the waitress just disappeared and we had to ask another waiter to bring the items)

After our meal, we wanted dessert and this is something that we had to ask for. Dessert was never offered to us, but rather we had to ask to see a dessert menu (again, bad service). In the dessert, we ordered bread pudding and chocolate cake/cheesecake. The bread pudding was good and the chocolate cake/cheesecake was AMAZING - it tasted like a cheesecake at the cheesecake factory; very delectable with a nice crust and melts in your mouth.

Overall, the food quality and flavor was very good. We had ordered 4 items (3 entrees and an appetizer) and 2 desserts and we could not find fault in any of the dishes. The service was EXTREMELY bad and poor and that was a little off-putting. The price was a bit high - not too expensive but definitely not cheap either. It was alright for dinner - midrange but on the pricier side of mid-range.

In the end, its a good stop if you are passing through Lafayette

Best cajun food I have ever eaten, and excellent beer too. Great wait staff, and wonderful service. Could not have been happier.
