T'Frere's Bed & Breakfast
Ranked #2 of 4 Lafayette B&B and Inns
Reviewed June 3, 2011

We ended a our 10 Day Roadtrip from Jax, FLA here in Lafayette, La where our Daughter, Jenny and here Fiancee, Jessie live. Jenny recommended we stay @ T'Freres B & B, as she lives close to here.
As soon as we pulled in the Driveway, we knew we were in the right place!! The house was built in 1888, and were welcomed by our Hosts, Pat & Maugie Pastor...at the Door!! We were greeted with afternoon T'Julips and Canapes (YUMMEEE). After a tour of the House and property, we were shown our room, which was the Garden Room, Upstairs with a King Bed, it's own separate Bath and Porch that sat above the Living Room. This Place is Great!!! Old Acadiana!! Just the way I imagined!! Southern Hospitality, French Luzianna Style. The Breakfasts were to die for!! 1st day, Hotcake, stuffed with a delightful cream cheese and 3 types of Fruit topping. This is definitely a Mom & Pop operation, but with the Kids helping out from time to time.
We had 3 wonderful days here and our Hosts really gave us much more than a place to stay. They gave us a Cajun History that they are trying their best to retain!! They are certainly passing it on to their Children, as I came "home" one afternoon to find their youngest, John, cookin' in the Kitchen, practicing his Accordian!! Way Cool!! Cuz "Les Americans" are just on the North Side of I-10, and one thing that makes America Great are our individual Traditions!!! and our Liberties to keep them!!!!
So, Folks, come on down to T'Freres and get some Acadienne Culture. As soon as you get past Morgan City, you'll start hearing the Music on the Radio!! J' Amour Acadianna!!

Many people like this B&B and I can see why, but we didn't find it our cup of tea. We went for the Festival International in Lafayette which was wonderful as always, however it runs till 11PM so you wind up getting back close to midnight. Since it doesn't get going till noon, and there's not a lot to do in Lafayette before it opens, it would be perfect to sleep in and have a nice lazy morning in the lovely garden at the B&B.

The problem is that T'Frere's has a strict 8 AM breakfast policy, if you aren't at the table at 8 AM the management stands outside your room door ringing a bell and yelling at you through the door to get up. The breakfast itself was nothing special, rich, sweet and artificially flavored.

You may not find this an issue if you are early to bed early to rise, we found it outrageous and insulting and will certainly not be returning.

Bonjour,

We are extreemly sorry that your stay here at T'Frere's was not up to your expectations. We always hope to leave visitors into Cajun country longing to return with stories of amazing good times and the love of the people that we share with our guests here at T''Freres House. We know that sometimes it may be inconvenient to guests to be served our Oooh! La! La Breakfast at 8 am. We feel that an 8 a.m. breakfast allows our guests to take in a full day of all the attractions of the area, as well as the festivals.
Our confirmations as well as sinage in the rooms clearly state that breakfast is at 8 a.m. Without any notice of wishing to sleep in, we have to assume that our guests are running late and need a wake up call. In southern traditions it would be rude to begin breakfast without all of our guests, thus the need to ring the bell.

Please know that we only want you to have the best expierence possible when coming to Cajun Country and again offer our apologies for ringing the bell, please forgive us.

My 82 year old mother and I made our way from Houston to New Orleans (her first visit) and broke the long trip up by stopping in Lafayette, midway to New Orleans. We stayed in 2 highly recommended B&B's in New Orleans after our stay at the Aaah T'Frere's. Hands down this place was our favorite part. We should have done the trip backwards and had this place as our grand finale. The son, John, was our highlight. He spent nearly 30 minutes visiting with us, telling us the history of the home along with a tour, giving us a lesson on cajun's, acadian's, creole, music, and seraded us with a personal accordian solo and dance. We also were served their version of a Mint Julep and along with little toasts with a crap topping. Yummy! John was just awesome and made our trip so personal and special. I can't wait to return with my husband. I highly highly recommend. You will not be disappointed. The gorgeous home and antique furnishings are delighful. Lucious breakfast was served by the father, Mr. Pastor. Beautiful loving family. Divine!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Mary Room - awesome!

We've stayed in B&Bs all over the US and Ireland and have truly never had so warm a welcome as at T'Frere's. John took over the intro and tour from his mother and had us laughing while enjoying our excellent "cocktail" (light on booze but long on flavor) and tasty appetizer. Many suggestions followed for tours and dinner and even a zydeco music demo on his accordion. We took him up on his suggestion to stop in for the music and dancing at Randall's - what an experience! Our room in the building in the back was very comfortable and cosy with lots of homey touches. (A nice firm kingsized bed.) We peeked into several rooms in the main house that also appeared comfy but with double or twin beds. Didn't really notice any traffic noise and we live in the country and are rather sensitive to that sort of thing.

They pride themselves on their ooh-la-la breakfast and I understand they have 7 different versions so I won't go into detail. I will say we dined at both Stella! and GW Fins this trip to NOLA and would put our breakfast at T'Frere's right up there with either of these fine restaurants both in quality and sheer yumminess. This may not be a 5-star hotel but it is a 5-star experience. Go there. Enjoy.

Room Tip: Rooms are well-described on the website.

My husband and I have visited New Orleans countless times, but for this vacation with our children we wanted to broaden our trip to include Acadiana. We picked this B&B for its central location and we couldn't have been more pleased with the experience. We had two rooms upstairs, one for ourselves and the other across the hall for our kids aged 7 and 11. We felt very private and safe since there were no other rooms on the floor and the kids were thrilled with their special place. They also loved exploring the grounds, which are secluded and lovely. Being off the main highway is only an issue if you want to be out in the middle of nowhere; for us, it was not even a thing. The house is beautifully decorated and well-maintained; the proprietors, family and staff were wonderfully hospitable and friendly; the breakfasts were works of art! We very much appreciated John's sight-seeing suggestions. Definitely recommend T'Frere's as a base of exploration for the area. Maugie was even so kind as to mail some decorating tips we'd talked about!

When my husband and I arrived at this beautiful property yesterday afternoon we were warmly greeted by the innkeepers, Pat and Maugie Pastor and their son John and given a short tour of the main house. Then were treated to tasty crabmeat canapes and a refreshing cold beverage before being shown to our room (the Bourree Room, one of two rooms that are located behind the main house in the detached "garconniere"). Other reviews complain about the fact that this property is located close to a busy street but whatever noise there was from traffic didn't bother us at all and, besides, the road is mostly obscured by trees/bushes. The "ooh la la" breakfast was a treat. We love staying at B & B's and we have decided that this is one of our new favorites! It was a memorable (not to mention extremely reasonable) quick getaway for us!

We loved everything about this B&B. We treveled from New Orleans to get a "taste" of Cajun Country. We were not disappointed. The hosts were so gracious and provided some history of the house and area. Our room was lovely. We will definitely come back for another visit and would highly recommend this B&B to anyone who wants to get a feel for the culture of the area. While in Lafayette, we ate dinner at the Village Cafe and would highly recommend it as well..
