“A great way to spend an afternoon with the family.”
Reviewed July 31, 2013

I was on a business trip to Lafayette, but brought my family along. I have always loved the Acadian culture and had in the area many times. I thought this would be a great way to introduce my kids to the heritage and they enjoyed the trip. It was such a peaceful place, the weather was great and we could just stroll through the buildings at our leisure. It was incredible to see how people lived in that time and some of the items that had been collected in the homes. We even enjoyed sitting and feeding the ducks when we were done. My son still enjoys his stuffed alligator from the store - named Al of course.

“Louisiana culture”
Reviewed July 31, 2013

My wife and I stopped here. It is a great place to walk around and better understand part of the Louisiana culture.

LARC's Acadian Village is Lafayette's oldest authentic vision of life in 19th century southwest Louisiana and is a showcase of authentic homes alongside a winding bayou, which depict the unique Acadian architecture of the time. The homes were restored onsite and outfitted with period antiques.

LARC's Acadian Village was featured in the July issue of Baton Rouge Parents Magazine!

“You feel part of the past.....”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

After all that is the point of this place is to see how people lived back then. Not to go through a modern museum, It would seem a little silly to me if there were a laptop in the museum. It seems to be great people that run it because they give people a chance to work that otherwise may not have a job. Should cost more in my opinion, I imagine it costs allot to keep up. The kids loved it, they found many things that they thought was so cool and my real little ones loved going up and down the stairs and in and out of the buildings! Everyone was happy and the kids slept great afterwards. I Really recommend it!!

“An Fternoon at Vermillionville”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

Beautiful, serene step back in time. Seeing homes of the past and people dressed in period costumes. On Saturdays and Sunday afternoon, they have jam sessions and dancing in the Pavillion. You can see Cajun and zydeco dancing depending if it is Cajun or Zydeco bands performing.

“Good in parts”
Reviewed June 22, 2013

Visiting this village is sort of a must to get the feel of the old bayou settlements, but its a bizarre experience. The village is made up of old houses reclaimed from other places and they are full of the materials of old. It was built years ago with some investment but it appears that the entrance fee ($8.50) these days is going somewhere else as the place has a feeling of faded charm about it with old signage, missing exhibits and an uneven footpath.

I still think you should visit, but dont expect anything swish. If the owners read this, c'mon spend a bit of the cash you are making and modernise some of the museum.
