The staff really made the experience. Very knowledgeable historians. Kids will enjoy taking the hand propelled ferry across the small stream.

We really appreciated this stop as the difference between Creole and Cajun was a little fuzzy to us. We also learned about the local watertable and why caskets here, as creepy as it looks, are often stored above ground. The homes were well preserved, and the staff was engaging and informative. We especially enjoyed meeting Cliff the woodworker, and the accordion concert we got in the schoolhouse! Fun way to spend 2 or 3 hours.

We tested the all you can eat buffet at la cuisine de maman. It was really honest. The dessert were really good : the bread pudding and the "hooyegooye " cake ( kind of everything by chance from the kitchen really good cake) ! The staff was nice and wasn't looking to get the check to climb up.
We visit the village then which was a bit sad in winter time. We had a few people demonstrating weaving on site on a Sunday afternoon.
We also took advantage off a dance with a zydeco music group which was lively and well attended.
In the end a good experience.

There is a nice collection of old buildings on the lovely grounds. Inside the buildings are people, dressed in historic costume who demonstrate various skills (wood carving, music, making cloth, sewing, etc) and explain what life was like in Cajun country long ago. Plus, a nice museum shop with hand-crafted items.
