We cannot say enough good things about our 3 day stay at the Ecolodge Fiordo Queulat! Juanito cooked the most delicious food on our entire 18 day trip in Chile. Although we speak very little Spanish, and he speaks no English, he was very patient and friendly with us to communicate and make sure that we were always comfortable and happy. He even packed picnic lunches for us during our hikes for an extra charge (but definitely worth it)! He gave us tons of food, a good mix of nutrients to keep us going during the hikes. He prepared food for us at whatever time of day that we wanted to eat and made sure that our fire was always going while we were out during the day so that we never came back to a cold cabin. The location was perfect, right at the edge of the national park and in the middle of all the hikes we wanted to do: the hanging glacier, the enchanted forest (a must see!), and the waterfall. While we were there, we were the only guests, and the family who owns the place stopped by to visit. They were also extremely friendly and helpful to us. They also all spoke English and offered great suggestions for our hikes, which let us see more than we would have planned on our own, and answered all our questions about the wild life and flora that we had seen. We (in our 20s) highly enjoyed talking to the grandmother of the family, who was hilarious and extremely intelligent. She made us feel very comfortable with them and had us laughing for hours.
The lodge sits next to the river, and Juanito has two dogs and a cat that are extremely friendly and love visitors, even act as the doorbell to let Juanito know when someone arrives so he can greet them and help them with bags. It is right at the edge of the national park and nicely centered between the two major hikes.
The cabin was comfortable, clean, and rustic. The wood stove kept us warm, and we loved falling asleep to the crackling wood. Our only small complaint about the cabin was that the bathroom would get chilly in the mornings, but this was expected at that time of year (November). The lodge, where all our meals were eaten, was very cozy and had very good books on the local birds and flora.
There is no cell phone reception, tv, or internet service, but we expected and wanted that. The beauty of the area is more than enough entertainment.

The Queulat National Park is what is called Perhumid Coastal Temperate Rain Forest, as far as we know, there are only 4 other places on the planet that have the same kind of forest, also the forest found at the park has never been touched by man, which is another plus. We feel priviledge to share this little piece of paradise wiht our guests. Thank you for your kind words.

The location is beautiful right at the edge of the national park and near the water. The food prepared each day was also very nice .... in this part of Chile the food tends to be locally grown which is nice. The lodge with the fireplace was very relaxing. Very close to the hike up to the hanging glaciar in Queulat park. Bring a good book and hiking shoes....no phone, no internet, no cell reception...a place to get away from it all.

Thank you very much for the great feed backs........and yes one of the highlights of the lodge is the cuisine. We take special care to choose only fresh products and when possible regional products. We also have our own vegetable garden to be able to provide our guests with fresh and organic products. Plus we have Juanito - host and chef - who takes special care of the food, slowly cooked on our wood burning stove.......Country breakfasts and hearty dinners help our guest to recover from the hikes and other activities we offer.

I stayed overnight in one of the cabins.Very spacious and clean, kept warm by my own fire. Quite a pleasant haven out in the middle of nowhere.Juan the host /cook prepared Salmon with rice and fresh vegetables from his own garden for dinner. The salmon was cooked to perfection. The property by a nice stream ,with access to the ocean even has it's own waterfall.

The cabins are simple, buy cozy and nicely located very close to Queulat national park secluded from civilization includng internet, cell phone, TV or radio. Juan, our host/cooker is extremely nice and helpful. He makes wonderful chilean food. We ate asado, sopaipillas, plateada, mote con huesillos and other chilean cuisine delights. Breakfast coffee was freshly brewed with freshly home made made bread.

It is a very good alternative if you are travelling in your own car. There are two treks about 10 Kms south and north to the cabins and the Puyuhuapi thermal spa is one hour by car.

We went in high season but we could not try the excursions because they did not have gasoline due to the local strikes.

Beware that the owners in Coyhaique do not reimburse advanced deposits if you cannot make it to the lodge for any reason. When we went there, the whole Aysen region roads were blocked by local fishermen and we had to go through Argentina using a hardly used secondary border pass bringing our own gasoline. Otherwise we would have lost USD800 in advanced deposit because they denied any refund even when they recognized that was very hard to get to the place.

I would reccommend the cabins but without leaving advanced deposit because is likely that you cannot make it due to weather, road slides, volcano activity or social unrest. all things that are fairly common in the area. If the owners insist on a deposit go to Puyuhuapi town 30 kms south which has plenty of nice alternatives.

We very much understand our customers. In February/March 2012 we lived a very painful social uprising wich did not allow to continue with our business and we lost all our passengers for the rest of the season. These passengers had paid 50% of the reservation and were caught just in the middle of this uprising, however they were able to arrive to lodge and stayed for one less night than what the reservation was for. They did not pay for that night. We sincerely thank them for challenging all the obstacle they found on their trip to finally make it to the lodge, I wish more of our customers would have been so brave and supportive of the situation as they were.

I programmed to stay 3 nights in january 2012, but it was such a terrible place that I had to flee. The cabin was very rustic and dirty. The surrounding area stunk, because of the sewage water. False expectations, never worth the expensive price and the difficulty to getting there. The owner did not try a bit to solve our claims, very ironic attitude, and we lost the reservation fee.

Unfortunatelly these passengers, especially the spouse, were very disappointed in the lodge. They were expecting a more luxurious hotel with marbles and mirrors............our lodge is absolutelly different. It is a native wood lodge, without internet or cell phone signals, wood stove heating, very simple but comfortable. Our hightlight is that we are in the heart of the Queulat national park, miles from a town and surrounded only by nature.......there is no way we can avoid a little spider once in a while!!! We did refund their money to these customers and we advised them to go to Puyuhuapi Lodge and SPA.

A friend and I stayed here three nights in May, 2011 to do some hiking in Queulat National Park. The lodge is ideally located, about 15 minutes from the trail to the Hanging Glacier (Ventisquero Colgante) , and about 45 minutes - 1 hour south of Puyuhuapi (the road was closed for construction and the ferry added to the travel time.) The lodge was normally closed for the season by this time, but they opened it just for us. Juan, the host/caretaker/cook took excellent care of us, and feed us very well There are four cabins and a central dining room/lodge. The cabins are very rustic, but comfortable. We had two rooms and one bath, a wood stove for heat, and hot water showers. In season, they can arrange multiple activities, but we only hiked nearby.

It is remote - no phones, no cell service, no internet, etc. Juan makes a daily radio check and was able to connect back to our rental car agency in Coyaique to send a new truck to replace our damaged SUV.
