We have used Oxalis twice, one in 2015 to go to Hang Én and this year to go to Hang Tien. Last year we new what to expect as we read some reviews but this year we took one of the new tours. The experience was something unexpected, I thought it will be something basic but the guys from Oxalis went way over my expectations. The setup in the camp was the same or better than in Hang En. "King", our tour guide, was always looking for our safety and at the same time was fun. I can recommend Oxalis for any expedition. We are looking to do a third expedition and we will do it with Oxalis.

Did the 2day Hang Va expedition with my husband with a group of 6. Well organised and friendly guides led by Phuong. There was quite a bit of bouldering and the shoes provided didn't provide much ankle support but the guides were always attentive in helping me through tricky spots. The caves were amazing- really glad we had this experience and would definitely recommend it!

Joined Hang En cave tour 2d1n, just wanna say it is one of lifetime experience without regret, jungle trekking, camping inside the cave, caving, hiking, etc...All those activities you will experience during the trip. Staffs are fun and friendly, guides can speak fine English and very supportive through out the trip. Due to hot and humid weather during my trip in Aug, it is recommended to bring extra clothings for change cause it can get sweaty and dirty.

Overall, highly recommended.

Consider visiting the Phong Na Ke Bang national park? Stop considering, make your plans final! We went on a 3-day 2-night tour to the Tu Lan cave and visited an additional 5 other caves. The Oxalis crew provided an excellent experience for us. The hikes and climbs can be a bit though, but it is worth it so much!
The caves and surroundings are beautiful. The stops at the campsites are breathtaking and the food provided was a treat. Especially considering the fact that the crew just had minimal cooking equipment to prepare this. Thank again to Ken, Magic Man and the rest of the Oxalis crew.

3D2N Tu Lan cave experience.
The caves themselves in Phong Na were unforgettable, by far the best attraction in Vietnam. However, Oxalis are lacking, with exclusive rights to the cave system it seemed that they felt they could charge a huge fee without reasonable service as there are no other operators there to challenge them.

We found it very difficult to get a day by day itinerary from the guides. It was freezing cold when we were there, and so everyone was concerned about getting wet in the rivers, and also waterproofing the bags. Some of our clothes were being transported ahead but it wasn't made clear what we should carry with us and whether it would stay dry. We were also worried about cameras etc. especially the professional photographer who was on holiday with his big camera!
In the end, we didn't take anything that we didn't want getting wet, but the first day we only crossed a river up to out ankles, so could have taken cameras and jackets with us, which was very disappointing as it shouldn't have been too hard to detail that.

The other big issue that a lot of us on the tour had was the stopping for photography inside the cave. Understandable to get a few shots (we didn't book on the photography tour for a reason!) but we stood around for sometimes as long as half an hour taking photos, time which could have been spent exploring the caves. The worst bit- all of these were taken on a camera that the guides had, and we were never sent these pictures! I've emailed the guide and he was included in a google drive that we set up to share pics and we never heard back, so that time spent taking the pictures was a massive waste.

We also had too many people on our tour. There was supposed to be eight people, and I justified the price a lot based on the exclusivity of the tour, but they added an extra couple. It wasn't a huge deal, but it did slow everything down, and I would expect in a situation like that, what everyone else payed should have been lessened, and made up for with the extra couple's payments. After the trip this same couple sent us all an email of warning, saying that money had gone missing from one of their packs (millions of dong) and that we should all make sure that nothing of ours was taken. They were certain that the oxalis base was the only place the pack had been left unattended. I did not notice anything of my own missing, and as far as I know, no one else did either, but still a worrying thing to hear.

I must say, the guides were friendly and the food was delicious. These things along with the national park itself made it definitely worth doing, but don't expect to get your money's worth from Oxalis.

Hi Britt,

Thank you for sharing all of your thoughts and concerns regarding your tour with Oxalis. It is very important to hear this kind of feedback so that we can make necessary improvements to our operations and also so that we can make sure our tour guides are properly trained for each tour.

We apologize sincerely that you did not feel that the tour value was worth the price, and we would like to inform you that since your tour last year, we have made immense improvements. Some improvements include the tour guides communicating better with customers regarding the itinerary, things they should pack or carry with them, and finding the best balance between customers who just want to take a few photos as they go and those who are professional photographers who want to spend much longer setting up perfect shots. That balance is tricky, but it's no fun for you standing around in the cold to take photos that you didn't even receive so we do apologize.

Also, we run tours with much stricter group sizes now than in the past. Previously we had tried to squeeze on customers because we don't want anyone to miss out on the tour. However, to do so, we add up more safety support from extra porters and extra guide assistants as well as make sure all logistics remain the same for each participants. As always, safety and conservation are our top priority.

As you mentioned, the couple did contact us regarding their lost money. However, we had further emails exchanges and took actions on this. We bought more lockers and safe after this even though the couple confirmed that they didn't blame us of this missing money. They just contacted to help us improve ourselves and we did take this chance to do so.

Again, thank you for sharing these comments with us and we are glad that you still enjoyed your time here. Hopefully you will have another trip back to Phong Nha in the future in better weather conditions, and you can see how we are improving over the years.

Sincere thanks,
Oxalis Adventure Team
