We did the 3/2 Tu Lan Cave Tour, and were extremely impressed by the nature around us and the staff running the show! Swimming in the caves is an experience we will never forget. Our guide Ken did an amazing job of showing us around and leading us through the jungle. The camping spots were outstanding, equipment high quality and food excellent. I would hope everyone does this tour when they visit Vietnam as it is absolutely not to be missed.

Absolutely outstanding trip. We had a full group, so 16 of us made the 2 day trek, along with our guides Ken, Dai & Tao who were nothing short of fantastic. Kenn was the louder of the bunch rallying the troops with his jokes and humour but Dai and Tao were equally as great.

The trek there is fairly easy to complete if the conditions are good. It can get hot and humid but not so challenging. Nothing can beat that moment you get inside the cave and see camp for the first time.

The food throughout was the best we've had in Vietnam. The feast on the first night beyond impressive. There's plenty of rice wine to drink too.

The water is filtered and some of the group thought it tasted "like riverwater". We didn't have any issues with it. They do have tang to add to it at camp to take the edge off it.

The final part of the trek is hard going. A 90 minute trek up a very steep and tiresome hill but you are met at the top with cold beer (and water & coke).

Overall, as well as being a spectacular experience, everyone involved was brilliant. The guides, porters, cooks, assistants. Professional but fun. Would go back in a heartbeat (if they helicopter me up the last hill ;-) )

I would define the Son Doong Cave tour as the “Adventure of a Life Time”; it is something you have to live/experience in order to appreciate the beauty and grand scale of the cave. In my opinion a tour of this type would not be possible if for Oxalis planning, organization, attention to detail and excellent service provided. This trip was focused on photography; the Oxalis team provided all key lighting equipment and team support to provide a unique photography experience and at the same time catering to the personal needs of each of the photographers in the group (I would definitely recommend this tour to fit fellow photographers). An A+ in terms of the camp sites, food (I am hooked now on Vietnamese food), the porter team (what an excellent group of people in terms of preparation, professionalism, dedication and joy they transmit), the photography sites chosen, and preservation effort. Oxalis recently inaugurated hotel provided excellent facilities, courteous staff and services for a relaxing experience after the trip.
I would like to especially thank Deb and Howard Limbert and the entire Oxalis porter team for this opportunity and unique experience. Besides all the good ratings mentioned above; and most important of all is the work being done to improve through the offering of these tours the quality of life for the local people.
I end my review commending Oxalis and the local teams and urge them to continue the conservation efforts so future generations can enjoy this amazing beauty.

Tu Lan 3D2N. We had high expectations for this tour, due to both the price and the reviews, and our experience was everything we had hoped for and more. There is no element of the tour that has not been considered and refined to make this as enjoyable as possible. The guides were exceptional, as were the porter and the jungle-men who do the heavy lifting. The food is delicious and abundant. The campsite is semi-permanent and very well organised, but the whole arrangement is still very harmonious with the natural surrounds. This is among the best (if not the best) tours I have done anywhere in the world.

The caves are truly wondrous, and the experience of swimming through them unforgettable. Want to be reminded of how brief and insignificant your life is? Well, swim or stand in a 3 million year-old cave and you will!

Note: I am very fit, and on a day which was dry and not too hot I was puffed getting up some of the hills. Don't let this deter you, but be aware that day 1 is no cake-walk. The waterfall-fed swimming at the end of the hike will make the effort completely satisfying!

Apart from the enjoyable and exciting elements of the tour listed above, while in the jungle and the caves I also felt very 'present' in a way I didn't elsewhere in Vietnam, nor ever really do at home. It is a remote and serene location where the daily grind is left behind and people just occupy a small place alongside the insects, birds, trees and karsts. On reflection, maybe this is what I relished most about the tour.

Gear-wise, on this tour you only need one set of socks, long sleeve shirt and pants as you swim immediately on days 2 and 3 so there is no point putting on clean/dry stuff. We picked up The North Fa(k)e socks, pants and shirts in Hanoi beforehand and they were ideal and cheap (zip-off at elbows and knees were very handy). Recommended extras to bring: wet wipes, torch, long pants for campsite (to keep mosquitoes at bay). If you do Tu Lan, which has lots of swimming, use the Oxalis boots, but be aware that they seem to be for quite a broad foot, so don't be tempted to go too big as your feet will be sliding around in them which makes hiking harder.
