Anantara Dhigu Maldives Resort
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed May 1, 2014

Travelling with our daughter, under 5yrs on both occasions in Oct & April, this resort has everything and more that you would expect from a beautiful location like the Maldives and suits both couples or families comfortably, without getting in each others way. The resort pics are not photoshopped, it really is that beautiful!

SERVICE: Staff and service were exceptional from the moment we arrived at the airport to our welcoming on the jetty, through to our regretful departure. Every staff member you pass, warmly acknowledge you without being annoying at anytime. Nothing is too much trouble. They have a menu for pillows and soap to choose from!!

FOOD: On our first stay, we ate in our room each night due to having a child who needed to sleep early but also because the quality of the room service food was excellent. I don't think I could say that about any other hotel I have stayed in. This was one of the main influences in going back to Anatara for our second trip. I didn't want to be disappointed with bad food and have to pay up for it. The children's menu offered the usual along with plenty of healthy & appealing meals that were very reasonable. This actually made our departure bill very reasonable. Our second stay we chose to eat out on several nights and for the 3 of us, entree, main and sharing of dessert and 2-4 glasses of wine, our bill was around $250-$300 as opposed to say $60-$70 for room service. Given the quality of the food, I didn't think this was unreasonable at all. The view is amazing, overlooking the sunset, turquoise water with fish and reef sharks swimming by! Buffet breakfast is fantastic and I now have to get back to the gym to work it all off! Glad to see the buffet is now within a glass enclosure and air conditioned as this wasn't the case on our first stay. Good idea! Lunch by the pool was also without fault.

KIDS CLUB: Thank you to the lovely Priscilla! As much as I'm not a huge fan of 'kids clubs' they need a rest from the heat and humidity and my daughter absolutely loved her time spent there. It's a great facility with a variety of activities. I felt very comfortable that she was safe and secure. We had a room just opposite the club which was ideal. The children's welcome back pack was very much appreciated too.

ACCOM: Sunrise villa for us on both visits. Perfect for families and probably more 'sun friendly' for children as they can play in the afternoon with a little more shade. Regardless you still see the beautiful sunsets over the palm trees. Large, spacious rooms with super king size bed (although it was a little hard for us!) and well set up for our daughter. Outdoor bathroom is amazing, we all loved it!

AQUAFANATICS: Great set up, diving, glass bottom canoes, jet skis, snorkelling, SUP (which I tried for the first time! Beginners, do this when it's calm and not windy and don't try and paddle under the Water Villa bridge!) It's not cheap but where is it cheap?! If you are going to do this type of activity, this is the perfect place to try it. Staff were very helpful and very competent. My husband, an advanced diver, enjoyed his days on the reef. If you don't want to spend on this type of activity, take your snorkel and flippers and walk out your front door and explore the small coral reefs right in front of your villa.

OVERALL:
It's humid and don't underestimate the heat, it can really knock you around if you don't stay hydrated and take a break from the sun/beach/pool. First trip I spent a full day vomiting and in bed with heat stroke.
Take your camera and head out to the over water hammock! You won't get a better pic than this to post on your facebook page!
Crab hunting & gecko spotting at night was great fun for children.
Grab a fresh coconut from Xavier in the afternoons as he makes his way around the island each day.

Thanks to everyone! We had a fantastic time and I hope we'll be back for a 3rd visit!

Room Tip: The beach villas and in particular, sunrise villas are probably more child friendly. The water is c...

There is nothing not to like about this resort. The over water villas are amazing, there is a lot of different restaurants to chose from and the water sports and island is simple breathtaking. The only huge draw back is the price of everything. Just a round trip transfer that you end up sharing with many others, and are forced to leave on the resorts appointed timeframe is $180 per person (for a 30 min boat rid). A drink at the bar can easily be $30. I simple burger $30 and dinners can be over $300 for two persons per night. The breakfast which is included is top notch!! I can not say anything bad about the place except the tennis court is on the staff island. The people that work there are amazing and management made you feel like you are important. For a honeymoon or a 25th/50th anniversary this is an ideal setting. Just forget the price of everything or you will be miserable.

Dear travels4849,

Thank you very much for your kind words. We are very happy, that our team played a key role in the success of your well-deserved holiday.

The underwater world on the Maldives is amazing, we fully agree with you! It is amazing what you can discover in the water, even if you watch the scenario from the beach, or from your Over Water villa.

Maldives is well known as a beautiful destination for watersports such as diving, snorkeling, swimming, Jet skiing or Parasailing and our Watersport Center ‘Aquafanatics’ is offering a wide range of different fun sport activities!

Knowing that we have been able to provide you as our guest a fantastic stay and some memories to take home, is the best thing about our daily work here at Anantara Dhigu Maldives!

You are absolutely right, the pricing in all Resorts on the Maldives is a bit higher and cannot be compared with other travel destinations. All our quality products are costly imported by airfreight from all over the world and subject to import taxes and customs fees, which reflects on our pricing.

We are on a small islands in the middle of the Indian Ocean, part of the 100 world wonders on this planet. The Maldives as a destination is unique and importing of food, beverages, petrol and all other items is a costly exercise.

However, we are continuously trying to balance and enhance the guest experience, by going the extra mile and adding ( here and there ) special services, like complimentary bottled water in the guest rooms, free use of high quality sun lotions at our Aqua pool bar and some other gifts, which you have surely discovered.

Rest assured, we will share your great feedback with our team and are looking forward to see you soon again at Anantara Dhigu Maldives.

Warmest regards to India,

This vacation was booked using my Anantara Vacation Club points. I became a member last year after staying at Anantara Lawana in Koh Samui and being greatly impressed by the facilities but more so the extremely individual and personal attention given to Guests.
Well you are met and smoothly transferred from Male Airport to the resort by Speedboat (Chaos at Male immigration and can take a long time to be processed...be warned!). You are received by the staff and a traditional drummer, sings you a welcome. Seamlessly transported to your accommodation, which in our case were sunset family villas. Luxuriously appointed and with your own private plunge pool and beach access and yes you really do see glorious sunsets. Crystal clear and child friendly swimming on your doorstep and just a bit further out your own private coral reef where you can snorkel to your hearts content (equipment provided free). Imagine any colour...and I think in most cases you will find a species of fish exhibiting it! We saw a Stingray as well.
Every evening you are served a refreshing cool drink on your patio, the room is serviced twice a day. Complimentary Coffee Machine and tea. My wife was bowled over by the toiletries..and your bathroom is just amazing...and outside shower...which you will need to use many times to keep washing the salt and sand away.
Loads of other watersports activities. Diving of course is world class with beginners to advanced divers catered for. We booked the Whale Shark encounter and though at @$3k it isn't cheap yet its worth every penny. Its an 8 hour trip on a luxurious speedboat with maximum 6 people. The Whale Sharks are not at all fazed by people swimming right next to them and we saw at least 10 or more.
The food is expensive but realise that it is flown in from all over the world as the Maldives have virtually no agriculture, fruit, dairy, poultry or meat indigenously. The quality is excellent from Breakfast through to dinner and a wide variety of restaurants on the two sister Islands (Dhigu and Velli). As a Family we opted mostly for the outstanding themed buffet dinners.
The staff and service are extremely friendly and attentive.
All in all, this would be classed as a lifetime experience, expensive but worth every penny!
Patrick, all your staff are doing an outstanding job and should be warmly commended.

I must also add a bit about the Anantara Vacation Club. On the basis of this experience I have upgraded to the next level of membership.
Google it and also the parent company, Minor. Its run by William Heinnecke. A huge multinational in Asia and rapidly expanding it's leisure facilities under various brands across Australasia and Africa. The ethos and quality are winners and the two different facilities I have used have been outstanding and demonstrate an underlying commitment to excellence in all aspects.
Asia is rapidly expanding its leisure industry to cater for its increasingly affluent middle and upper middle classes. The concept of good service is way beyond that in the West. Though this membership isn't cheap, it delivers excellent quality and value for money and I plan to use it to explore this part of the world.

Room Tip: You can't go wrong with any choice

Indeed, it is the Anantara way to ensure that all our guests receive the genuine warmth and hospitality that they deserve.

Our choice of different dining areas and restaurants will leave you with many options every day ! The Japanese Restaurant “Origami”, the Italian Restaurant “Terrazzo”, our Thai Restaurant “Baan Huraa” or one of our 2 Theme Buffet Restaurants ( Fushi Café & 73 Degree ) are just some of the options, our guests can choose from. Having 3 luxury island resorts next to each other is unique on the Maldives!

Our sister resort ‘Anantara Veli’ is the ideal choice for couples, traveling without children, while ‘Anantara Dhigu’ offers various options for families, traveling with kids.
Naladhu Maldives, our private island resort, provides the ultimate luxury experience, serviced by 1 housemaster, taking care for all the guest needs.

As you have experienced, we have everything available, what makes a holiday with us memorable.

We can’t wait to welcome you and your family back on one of our 3 islands!

Maldives typically is described as a Honeymooners Destination but the Anantara team at Dhigu, Naladhu and Velli redefine the definition successfully !! I went with my children (2 and 5) at the worst time of the year when the weather was not favorable. The Anantara team (Raghi, Imitiaz, Andreas, Nadeem, Anna, Bobby, and so many more people whose names I cannot recollect) did a fantastic job to make it a trip to remember !! Just one hiccup occurred but that too was smoothly and wonderfully handled by the team to continue making the experience a wonderful memory !

Thank you Anantara Maldives !

We have already passed on your comments to our team, especially to those ones, you have mentioned by name.

Indeed, Maldives is a great destination for honeymooners, couples and families. Our unique setting ( 3 island and 3 resorts ) is a brilliant destination for each traveller. Our family resort ‘Anantara Dhigu’ caters for couples and families with kids, while ‘Anantara Veli’ is our ‘couples only’ islands. Our third property ‘Naladhu Maldives’ serves for the ultimate luxury experience and grants full privacy, while your private house master rounds up your luxury stay on the Maldives.

We have just returned from a twelve night stay at Anantara Dhigu and cannot rate it highly enough. The service from the outset was outstanding - being met at the airport, transfer by private speedboat to the island, and the excellent welcome at reception. The island and surrounding waters have to be seen to be believed.

The sunset over-water villa itself was large, with a massive comfortable bed, small sitting area next to a very well stocked mini bar. Large dressing area leading to a bathroom with the ultimate bath with a view, and a loo with a view too! The balcony/deck was just heaven, steps leading down into the beautiful turquoise waters. Lots of very nice touches - lots of swim towels, deck shower, plenty of complementary bottled water re-stocked every day. Staff who serviced the rooms were very thorough and unfailingly polite.

Great staff at the waterspouts centre - both husband and son really enjoyed the fun rides, especially the molecule, and I got a free half hour boat ride round the islands at the same time.

The choice of places to eat was excellent - Italian, fusion, really good Thai buffet dinner, but invariably, after the wonderful breakfast every day with more choice than you could imagine, we went to the Aqua bar for a late lunch/early dinner. Great choice of western and Asian food that satisfied us all (and to note, kids menu is available in all restaurants at a very reasonable price). Our thanks go to the guys in the bar who served us so well almost daily - and mixed the most wonderful G&Ts we've ever had. Particular thanks to Logu and all for making us feel so at home.

Thanks also to Torsten for his kindness and attention to all his guests. He and his staff made such a wonderful location so much better, and we have had a holiday that will stay with us forever. Already looking forward to our next visit to an Anantara :-)

Room Tip: Over water villas are fantastic - would recommend the sunset side (we would never be up at sunrise...

So pleased we chose this resort, everything was perfect from the 30 min speedboat transfer, check-in and hitting the beautiful beach. We were 2 adults and 2 kids and had a sunset beach villa (No 66) which was perfect for us, and only about 3 villas away from the pool/aqua bar which was great.
The staff at the watersports centre (Aquafanatics) are great, really helpful and very professional, we did the snorkelling trip and then diving for beginners on a huge reef packed full of fish. We saw turtles, rays and sharks (don't worry, friendly reef sharks) just around the clear shallow waters of the hotel. Also kayaks are available free of charge each day.
I had read that some Maldives resorts charge extortionate prices for bottled water, not the case here, it was provided free both in the room and at the pool bar.
The only real negative was that the holiday ended (only 5 days) and we had to return to reality.
Looking forward to a return visit.
