Paradise...

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Nov 26, 2012
Went for our honey moon for 11 days. Paradise on earth and the fact that there is Anantara Veli right next to it makes it even nicer, as you get twice the restaurants to choose from and another area to explore.

The staff and service were impeccable. When we go to Thailand, I will definitely check other Anantara properties out, as we were really impressed. The breakfast buffet was incredible in its variety (if I had one complaint to make would be that the bread could have been better, but since I was concentrating on other areas, it didn't really bother me).

As for the 11 days, we chose to stay there for the hole time instead on "resort hoping". We were there to enjoy and relax, not to write a book on different resorts! I say this because we met people that went to 4 different hotels in 10 days. And when you consider that for some of them you need to fly, we don't think it makes for a very nice vacation, but, perhaps it's just us.

I dove a couple of days, did parasailing and the fact that Anantara has a small abandoned island you can swim, walk or boat to (and they can prepare dinner on a tent for you too) was wonderful. We also did massages on both spas and enjoyed all of the restaurants.

I still sigh when looking at the pictures!

A note: when we were there there were many families, mostly from Sri Lanka and westerners who worked in the Arabian Peninsula. There were kids and, although I can say if it is a good place for them or not, I can attest that at no time we were bothered by children or thought they were making noise, etc... It was really no problem at all.

Room Tip: My advice? The best rooms are the sunset beach bungalows. The over water bungalows are over rated...

I love this hotel!
I arrived at midnight and the hotel arranged a native Cantonese to help on the checkin and introduce the resort.  It would be even better if he could introduce the snorkeling area.

My suite, according to the boy, was just completed the renovation which made it new, clean but without that smell.

The staff here were very polite, friendly, attentive, and professional.  I did three dives and a dolphin excursion there and the diving master and the boat team are professional and helpful.

Food--fuddan & Thai (at Veli) are my favorite.  We joined the food and wine for fun (organized on every Sunday).  You could make your own pizza and teppanyaki, giving some extra $ you could drink, 3 choices of red and white.
There were sushi, Thai salad and satay and other desserts.  If you were a wine lover, it was the event for you.  I went the same place Gecko again in another night, overall a bit behind the other restaurants.  Having said that, their Wagyu was still a good choice.

The hotel also organized a reception on Tuesday.  It was held on the beach.  You needed to go into the water to get a drink, at least the coconut I ordered never came until I went to the bartender and got another kind of drink.

I think I unlikely come back to the same hotel in Maldives as there are so many islands there but no doubt that next time I plan a trip to  Phuket, it will be one of my top choice.

Thank to all of you in Anantara Dhigu Resort for an extraordinary experience! I had the possibility to stay few days in September and it was amazing! Just few minutes by speed boat - at night a very nice ride with sky full of stars. One of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen, great accommodation (stayed in Beach Villa) and the most beautiful bathroom I have ever had!!! Nice island, beautiful views, great food, wide choice of food, perfect services from the staff! Loved esepcially the coral nursery. Thank all of you very much for everything! Keep going this way! Hope to come back soon again!

Thank you to all the people that reviewed this property, everything I read was very accurate. It was truly amazing. We stayed 5 nights here and then 5 nights on Naladhu. Both were amazing experiences. Yes its pricey but I don't think you can avoid it if you're looking to travel to the Maldives.

We went to dhigu in a group of 6 adults and 2 kids ( 11yrs & 4 yrs). We reached the airport and were immediately received by the staff of Dhigu at the exit. The speed boat was waiting for us and another couple of guests at a walking distance of 5 mins from the airport which is completely adjacent to the sea. A forty minute boat ride to the hotel and there we were to the heavenly property of Anantara Dhigu. Beautiful and love at first site. We were personally welcomed by the manager Mr. Mathew who was a great host until our stay at dhigu. A welcome drink followed with a couple of formalities to be done with ( paper work and deposit). We had opted for the sunrise water villa and sunset water villa both. The rooms were fabulous. Huge rooms with a small coffee table and two chairs at the entrance, a huge bed room open to an awesome deck with sun beds and coffee table with chairs opening straight down to the ocean ( 2 ft deep). The bathroom was huge with a big tub for two opening to the the ocean just right in front of you, a shower area opening to the deck and a WC with glass below to see the fish in the ocean. The room has a super aircon, mini bar, wine cellar, coffee machine ( lavazza), hot kettle with a good variety of tea to choose from. They also provide with rain coats, umbrellas, life jackets, slippers, beach bag all in the room complimentary for use in the hotel. The toiletries in the bathroom are superb to use. The rooms are cleaned in the morning and night again. The only difference in the sunrise and sunset water villas is the view. The sunrise villa has a view of the sunrise and 2-3 island around the hotel which are all owned by the resort itself. The sunset villa has the view of the sunset and only sea. Personally I prefer the sunrise villa as you can see a couple of activities around like the speedboat passing by, kayaks but all occasionally. The dhigu is a super clean and neat island compared to veli which is a little tired and dirty. They have the buggy service which takes u around from the room to the restaurant, pool etc. I can go on and on..... But would just like to keep the suspense for you. A very good hotels for families too. No musquitos, insects, reptiles at all. The marine life around is highly Ok. The aqua fanatics sports facilities are great and have to mention a special thanks to manuel my scuba dive instructor who really encouraged me to dive and stayed only with me for the complete dive which was actually a once in life time experiance not to be missed, when actually I wanted to get back to land during my training. and also a special thanks our snorkelling instructor who encouraged me and my family to snorkel in the middle of the sea, which was a great experience too. Please do not miss the Fun fair on Sunday's which includes different cuisines from around the resort and have special booths where u can cook food for your partner under the chefs supervision and also buy a wine tasting session which includes unlimited wine there after with a beautiful candel lit set up with live music along the beach. The food all over the resort ( Vegetarian for us) including Thai, Japanese, Mexican ( burritos) was fantastic. The best part about Anantara is you can take a 2 min ferry ride ( available from 7am to 11.30pm) to the other island VELI and enjoy the hotel and restaurants there too. All in all a fantabulous hotel not be missed !!!
The only disappointment was the marine life in near the hotel which was nothing great at all.

Room tip: Experience Maldives only in water villas and not a beach villa !!
