We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the ambience of Latil's. What a great way to spend an evening before and after dinner on the grounds of Houmas House.

This was one of the best dining experiences I have ever had. My in-laws had taken a tour of the house the year before and wanted to come back for my mother in law's birthday dinner. From the moment we stepped foot onto the property it was enchanting. There even was a large event going on on the front lawn and there were people dressed up in era clothing, it really added to the experience.
Our server, Debbie was outstanding. She really made us feel like we were just at someone's home for a great dinner. I see some have mentioned that the service was slow, however I feel it was perfect. There was enough time in between courses to relax and not feel rushed. It was m mother in law's birthday and at the end they brought a huge banana's foster for us to share, and there was no charge.
We did not want to leave at the end of the night and walked the grounds after and took in the magic of it all. If you are even considering eating here, do it! It will be an experience you will never forget.

“Elegant Dining”
Reviewed April 18, 2012

The surrounding area of Baton Rouge La. is filled with Civil war era plantations all along the Mississippi River. One such place is the beautiful Houmas House Plantation. Famous for it's Hollywood history of different movies filmed there is is easy to see why once you enter the grounds. Break taking gardens, the spanish moss dancing in the wind as it clings to the majestic branches of the 300 year old oaks. Enter the house and you are swept back in time to a long gone era of grace and southern charm. Located in the beautiful restored plantaion home is Latil's Landing restaurant. I choose to dine my fiance at Latils as a birthday gift and beleive me it is well worth the cost. Arriving at early at the plantation we enjoyed a late afternoon stroll thru the gardens. When it was time for our reservations we were lead to an old section of the house once a bedroom, now a dining room. Built in 1774, the 238 year old room was gorgeous, cyprest wood flooring, period oil paintings adorn the walls, flickering candels setting the mood for a elegant dining experience. Our waiter wasted no time in demostrateing her culinary knowledge of their menu. As we read the menu we were brought an assortment of breads and butters to sample. We both ordered the house salad, blue cheese and a home made vinegrete delitefull. We were brought a comlementary tasting of sorbet with a splash of Grey Goose Vodka to cleanse our pallets. As an ente'e Shirley ordered the Black Drum Sam a almond encrusted fillet on butternut squash couscous, I had the Chef's selection of Veal, which was a short rib and sweet bread served with a medley of vegtables. We choose a glass of riesling wine to complement our dinner. As we ate Shirley made the statment "It's like dining on the Titanic" The Houmas blue china sparkled in the candel light. Guys, if you want to step up and impress a lady, take her here to dine. The price may detour some from enjoying the most enjoyable dining experience one can have.

Are you kidding me? From when you walk into the gift shop, till you tour the grounds the Houmas House is just beautiful. The food is amazing. Make sure you make time for the Turtle Bar. The nite bartender is named Todd. He is the best and with a Las Vegas background can pretty much make anything. Warning girls don't stare into those blue eyes to long or he will lure you in. Great place and a must to visit.

“Magical Dining Experience”
Reviewed January 11, 2012

If you are the area of the Huomas house you must visit the plantation and dine at the restraurant, Latil's Landing. Southern hospitality at it's finest: from the ticket purchase, to the bartender, tour guide, to the waitstaff, and most impressive the food. The chef who comes from a gourmet background in 5 star dining in Las Vegas created the most wonderful dishes out of local ingredients. The food and experience was elegant without the pretentious undertone you would expect of an establishment of this caliber. We truly enjoyed our experiene and would recommend you visit right away before word gets out that this is the best restaurant in the South.
