The food is good. A little pricey. The atmosphere is elegant and the grounds outside are beautiful.

We go there every Christmas with our employer. Well trained staff.

In the steak department, the filets are wonderful but a little pricey. I can buy the same steak and prepare at home. Obviously , eating out , the filet is very delicious.

We had dinner at The Carriage House and it was spectacular. The oyster stew was to die for along with the creme brûlée. My husband said his buffalo New York steak was the best steak he had ever had. The service and presentation was wonderful. Roberto from Bocage Plantation recommended it and it did not disappoint. After dinner hit up the Turtle Bar, the bartender made the experience even more memorable!

We had an afternoon tea in the carriage house while spending the day touring the house and gardens. While the service and venue were great, along with the food, I felt it was overpriced for what little food was offered. The 4 sandwiches were only an inch square, and the scones not much larger. Just an FYI if you are considering the tea - don't plan on being full afterward.

The property has a beautiful large plantation home surrounded by magnificent gardens, courtyards, large beautiful oak trees that are centuries old as well as ponds and waterfalls. Buried in the rear of the beautiful gardens you will find 3 restaurants. On the west side of the large paved parking you will find rows of brand new cottages with all the amenities and decorated with old world furnishings.

We thought our New York friends, Denise and Bob, would enjoy touring an antebellum mansion, and they agreed. We decided on Houmas House http://houmashouse.com/, about an hour’s drive upriver from their hotel. Of course it’s a beautiful place on magnificent grounds, but our biggest surprise was the lunch they offer. Described in the brochure at the hotel as a fountainside café where visitors "can take a break from their hectic day and enjoy a casual lunch," we were expecting mediocre sandwiches al fresco, but we got a very nice restaurant with a very broad menu ranging from Bob’s Red Beans & Rice (it was Monday, after all) to Denise’s eggplant Napoleon, and much more. The table shared some of the biggest onion rings ever, and Paula’s Seafood Pasta Jambalaya was delicious, as was my Catfish Wade Hampton (named after the Revolutionary War hero who bought the property in 1810 and began construction on the mansion). Excellent food nicely served in a lovely setting. We thoroughly enjoyed the house tour, too, although the begowned Southern Belle docent was just a bit too cutesy for words.
