“Nice but smelled musty”
Reviewed December 28, 2015 for a stay in December 2015

Overall, our stay was okay. The owner (Blaine) was friendly, welcoming and responsive. They left us baked bread and jelly, and some essentials in the fridge, which was a really nice gesture. The chalet was a good size and it was very tranquil, as it was right on the river. The place has a lot of potential, and we would suggest updating a few things (i.e., the drain stopper in the downstairs bathroom was very old and cracked, kitchen sink hole cover was rusty and kept falling off, some of the windows needed to be cleaned, rotten wood on deck, overgrown back yard). Some of these things may seem nitpicky, but the impression is a negative one when they are not addressed. The biggest issue we had was the smell. Throughout the house there was a strong smell of mold or mildew that didn't go away. It permeated all of our clothes and we had to wash everything when we got home to get rid of the odor. One other comment is just to say that there really isn't much privacy -- both of the queen beds are upstairs and the upstairs is all open space.

We were so glad you choose to stay with us here at Little River Bluffs. I would like to say that we are truly sorry for some of the inconveniences you experienced as we are not use to this. We have gotten real spoiled with the great reviews we get on a regular bases so this helps bring us back down to reality! As for the musty smell, we have had over 21 days of straight rain here and that could be contributing to the musty smell. These situations don't happen very often but when they do, it makes it very difficult to control especially when our rentals are not occupied on a seven day a week bases this time of year. For the record, we do final inspections prior to all guest arrivals so I'm not sure how we missed this one!. Something else to remember is that the interior is made of cedar and sometimes that smell can be misinterpruted as well. This is the first complaint we have had so we appreciate the heads up. As for the back yard, we have no yards but all woods here as we keep in step with nature and do not alter our natural land scape other than some tree trimming, cutting back trails etc. and we just had the river view at the Chalet trimmed down four weeks ago. We like to keep the natural beauty in tact as this is what makes our attraction such a special place to visit. I wasn't aware of the drain stopper being an issue but will have our mainteneance team look at that as well as the sink. As for the windows, we just had our windows cleaned and washed professionally and do that four times a year so I will let our cleaning staff know and make sure this is addressed. Regarding the the upstairs privacy issue between both queen beds, the half wall divider with open window was original designed to allow the space to have grand opened views in both directions as well as having access to the half bath however; we have considered adding a privacy curtain in the opened window area between both beds to give guest a little more privacy when multiple guest check in that may require needing extra privacy space. We take pride in what we do here at Little River Bluffs and have an incredible repeat customer base that come back time and time again so these comments are greatly appreciated in an effort to continue offering our guests a great place to retreat! Happy New Year to you and your family and thanks again for your review.

“Great cabin experience”

Having lived in Louisiana for many years in my younger days, I knew that it was a diverse place with many surprises for those willing to get out of New Orleans and explore the rest of the state. Little River Bluffs is one of those hidden jewels that rewards the adventuresome traveler. It was a very pleasant surprise to find such an ecological and environmentally sensitive resort just 40-50 mile from The French Quarter!

From the time you drive through the rustic gates you know you are in a different kind of place. The narrow winding road leading into the compound is surrounded with native flora and fauna. Bamboo leans over the road providing a tunnel like effect as you drive to the cabin that was to be our retreat for a few days. My wife and I had decided to rent The River Chalet, primarily because the river runs directly behind the cabin and you can sit on the deck and watch all the wildlife that surrounds the Little Tchefuncte River as it rolls lazily by.

While we really expected a primitive cabin in such a native setting, we were pleasantly surprised at the comfort and extensive supply of amenities that we found when we arrived. The cabin is spacious with incredible views from both the living room and the comfy deck. A fully equipped kitchen with a dining area made us feel right at home. Upstairs in the master bedroom we felt like kids sleeping in a tree house! Windows all around gave treetop views in every direction.

The weather was good during our stay so we took advantage of the Kayaks that are provided for guests. What a visual treat. Floating on the water through primal forest surrounding the river really recharged our “city tired batteries”! For those who prefer walking to floating, there are trails winding all through the 30 acre compound with delightful visual surprises around every corner.

This is a 5 star place in our book. It is rustic, but comfortable and civilized while being a little wild! We will be back.
