Camellia House Bed and Breakfast
Ranked #1 of 5 Covington B&B and Inns
Reviewed October 25, 2011

We found the Camellia House based on a quick internet search had narrowed us down to a few choices. After talking with the very friendly and welcoming proprietor, Linda, we chose Camellia House and were not disappointed! The photos don't do the lovely property justice! The garden in particular is full of nooks and cozy spots to sit, and the porch is welcoming and very hard to leave. Unlike many B&B's, Camellia House welcomes children, and ours (ages 4 and 6) were charmed by the little sun room where they slept (Linda added a second twin bed to accommodate them). I would suggest that, while the property is "kid-friendly", it is not the kind of place to bring a particularly rowdy or loud child. Like most B&B's, the furnishings are antique, the china real, and there are other guests in close proximity. We will be back!

My husband and I stayed here the last weekend of July for a weekend getaway. It was everything we wanted! We were in the king room off the pool, and the room was perfect. The bed was comfortable, the air conditioning was cold, and our hostess provided everything one could need. We loved the effort that has been put into making every room as private as possible - there is a curtain to pull to separate the balcony between the 2 rooms that open toward the pool (which is gorgeous). We also really enjoyed the bikes that are available for guest use. There is even a tandem, which we rode over to the Abita Brewery and back. We also really enjoyed the breakfast setup, which is left in your room the night before for you to eat whenever you desire. Coffee, milk, cream, juice, etc. are available in the room refrigerator. It was so relaxing to take my plate on to the balcony and eat in the rocker while listening to the fountains spill into the pool. We hope to return in the fall! There were so many good restaurants in the area and so much to do. Our hostess was incredibly helpful with suggestions as well.

We went to a wedding in Covington and stayed at the Camellia House in late June, the accomodations were wonderful, the room had everything we needed and the grounds were beautiful. We loved this B&B. Our only complaint would have to be about the "breakfast". We have stayed at many B&B's and we are usually served a hot breakfast in a communal setting. It was very disappointing to be given stale criossants and a slice of quiche for us to microwave the next morning and a bit of fresh fruit. If they would add a nice homemade breakfast, this place would be off the charts!

I stayed here on a busienss trip to St. Tammany Northshore and decided to add an extra night for leisure because I enjoyed it so much.

Linda is a wonderful host with recommendations for everything. It feels like your staying at your new friend's home.

Great bedding, cute rooms. Nice pool and hot tub. The back yard is like a secret little oasis tucked away. Bicycles to use...great breakfast. And lots of thought to the little extras in the rooms. From the movies to the magazines to the foot scrub!

I highly recommend you stay here when exploring greater New Orleans....the safer, quieter side!

Room Tip: Stay in the king size suite off the pool.

Staying at the Camelia B&B was just what the doctor ordered and many times I felt rejuvinated. My husband and I escaped away to this charming house last minute and were constantly blown away by the southern hospitality of the inn keepers. This B&B instantly charms once arrival with it's cozy hammocks, porch swings and beautiful landscaping. Everywhere we turned, we saw so many special touches that made our stay a true joy. We had fresh fudge in our room along with fresh pastries that were homemamde that day and quite delicious. We felt like we truly escaped to a place of rest and peace. The rooms were elegant and and the soothing fountains by the pool were quite relaxing. Linda the innkeeper went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. She even let us know all the town has to offer. She even called to look into any live music venues for us before arrival as well as showed us a map with recommended some superb dining once we arrived. We also partook of the bikes they lend out and rode down to the farmers market, everything was close by and convenient. Fun shops, events, restaurants all within walking distance, but to be honest...We would have been fine staying there all day! We even had dinner in one night by drinking wine in the hot tub and then ate cheese and other appertizers from our porch balcony. This B&B stole our hearts and Linda and her husband really ministered to our souls that weekend. For all you get, the price is unbelievable! Cannot wait to return!

In short, this was perhaps the best B&B or hotel experience we've ever had. I think B&B's are all about the host, and this place speaks very well of the owner Linda. She is gracious, friendly, attentive and considerate- and one heck of a decorator! The beautiful room was accessed from the front porch, spotless, always stocked with soft drinks, pastries, milk, juice, etc. Super comfortable bed and chairs- pillows and throws on the rockers and porch swing, too.
Covington itself was a nice surprise. For a very suburban setting, we were able to walk to quite a few good restaurants, it's also a short drive to an alligator ranch, and New Orleans is fairly close by.
Great people all over the place- I love the South!
