Description: Built in 1840, The Rockingham Arms is a charming old village pub full of character and situated right at the edge of the beautiful New Forest, in a designated National Heritage area. Located in the picturesque village of West Wellow in the Test Valley, near Romsey in Hampshire, the pub is just off the A36 between Salisbury and Southampton and with easy access from Junction 2 of the M27. Our pub is an ideal place to stop for great food and drink for anyone visiting the northern reaches of the New Forest and is just a few minutes' drive away from the popular Paulton's Family Theme Park, home to the famous 'Peppa Pig World'. Also nearby is the stunning Mottisfont Abbey, a National Trust property with magnificent gardens and a renowned gallery featuring various exhibitions by some of the country's leading artists and photographers. Excellent forest walks are available right from the doorstep of The Rockingham Arms, across Canada Common - ideal to build up an appetite or to walk off your hearty meal!

This pub is perfectly situated in the New Forest, it has a fantastic area for dog walking, the pub is also very welcoming of dogs, into its fabulously appointed bars. The food and drink was excellent as was the service. The four of us arrived with two dogs without having booked a table but we were accommodated very well, it was great. We will book next time just in case, I wouldn’t want to be disappointed. Hope to visit again very soon.

We met our daughters and partners here for Sunday lunch. Plenty of parking but very very busy! The pub is quirky inside, there are a variety of seating areas including settees and different sized tables. We, fortunately were given a round table in a corner, so really were not too bothered about the noise but I can well imagine that the wrong position in the pub would make it difficult to hold any sort of conversation for long.
Service the whole time was brilliant, from the welcome, the drinks order, the meal order and the arrival of the food - very slick with polite and speedy staff. Starters were lovely - I had the goat cheese salad with figs which I can highly recommend. We all had roast dinners - crackling to die for with the pork, and beef served up that reasonably matched what you had asked for - rare, medium rare etc. Great choice of vegetables and plenty of them, but the Yorkshire puds were a trifle dry, but this was alleviated by the 2 jugs of gravy we were given! The desserts looked good, although I just opted for a coffee.
We browsed the small shop attached to the pub after our meal - some neat gift ideas if you like dogs! Great cards too.
We will definitely return as we rarely find anywhere that gets just about everything right. Well done Rockingham Arms.

We came for lunch on a Tuesday in the new year and it was so busy!! I’d definitely recommend booking even midweek during term time.
Service was very good and the food tasted delicious - especially the homemade bread, which I can recommend as a starter.
All in all a great experience - and I love that they are so dog friendly!!

Lovely setting, delightful interiors, we went on a Friday evening and the place was full, very pleasant friendly staff, orders taken quickly, and food served promptly.

Starters of tempura prawns were excellent, lots of prawns, prawn cocktail also good.

Crab linguine was very nice, but could have done with a lot more crab, and a crab claw would not have gone amiss.

Beef cheeks were a bit dry and overcooked, all in all a pleasant meal, but it does need a few tweaks.
