“First visit - Will definitely be coming back!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 27, 2012

Visited with my husband and we had a wonderful meal. The steak was the best I have ever tasted. Staff were friendly and food was served quickly. We have recently moved to the area and will definitely be making more regular visits!

“Best pub around Romsey”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2012

My Husband and I frequently visit the Wheatsheaf, in fact as a romantic treat to ourselves this year we decided to forgo the traditional posh restaurant and go to the Wheatsheaf. The food is always outstanding and they do the best sticky toffee/ treacle pudding I have ever tasted. The service is always very friendly and the staff are all knowledgable. I would reccomend this pub as a great place for a quiet drink as well as a fantastic restaurant with a lot of character and charm.

“Local produce cooked beautifully”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 21, 2012

After visiting this restaurant on several occassions and every time being impressed we felt comfortable to take some clients there for dinner. As always the food was superb.

The chef goes from strength to strength with his ability to cook game and the duck starter and pheasant mains were amazing! (Everything else was too but the game is always my first choice as it is not possible to be served dishes on a par anywhere near this restaurants standards within a good distance when it comes to game!)

1/2 price champagne Friday also meant that we were able to add the bubbly to the meal without the expense.

Our guests also enjoyed the potato ice cream which they had never tried before.

As an added touch the dessert chef popped his head out of the kitchen at the end of the evening, not only to see if we enjoyed the dessert, but to tell us about all the exciting new ice creams he is experimenting with. It is lovely to see a restaurant that has already gamed acclaim to continue striving for perfection. We look forward to visiting again.

“Excellent”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 20, 2012

We went here for lunch on a rainy Saturday afternoon. Service at the bar was helpful and friendly. We ordered sandwiches from the "Locals' Menu" - Sausage and mustard, and a BLT. Ensconsed ourselves on a squishy sofa by the fire and the HUGE sandwiches rapidly arrived. Sausage and mustard was lacking the mustard but they were quick to bring a little pot to the table for us.

The atmosphere here is so chilled and friendly, I even fell asleep on the sofa post-lunch, as you just feel so welcome! No mobile phone signal to speak of but free wi-fi which was great.

Looking forward to many more future visits!

“Good but nothing special”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 18, 2012

Visited after reading the rave reviews on Trip Advisor and ended up mildly disappointed as found the whole experience very average and a bit over priced.

The surroundings are pleasant and clean and the staff smiley. The menu was short and to the point and we elected for the burger and fish options. The burger was tasty but serving it on focaccia was not quite right for my taste and to charge an extra 75p for a sliver of cheese is a bit cheeky! My husband and daughter had the battered fish which was served with the skin on - a cardinal sin in our house - and both said that they had tasted better.

The chocolate fondants were gooey and yummy and the potato ice cream was delicious but at £6 I believe the puddings to be over priced.

Overall an underwhelming experience and I although I may visit again there are better places out there to eat this type of food in.
