“Relaxed New Years' Beach Getaway”
Reviewed January 20, 2014

The two of us stayed in cabins here over 4 nights - the first night in a Deluxe Cabin, the subsequent nights in a Standard Cabin. Definitely go for the Deluxe if you can - slightly more solid and a bit roomier and more pleasantly situated than the Standard (which might move around a tiny bit as it is on wheels). Rooms were clean, very sparse, but we really didn't need anything other than the fridge.
You aren't looking for luxury if you're staying at a camp ground, so don't expect it; but everything was functional and suited our needs perfectly. The one niggle was how busy the shower facilities got at peak times in the morning and evening, but we allowed for this simply by showering much later at night - also new shower blocks were in the process of being built during our stay. With regards to bathroom facilities in general, make absolutely sure you pack jandals to wear into the showers and toilets - the floors could get a bit nasty. Kitchen could be a little busy too, but it was just a case of being patient.

The ground itself has good accessibility, with easy boardwalk access to both sides of the beach.Good takeaways from the campground shop.
If you are planning to tent, be aware that the noise from surrounding tent plots or paths might be irritating.

Beautiful area and a fun beach to visit - would definitely recommend!

We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay here at Hotwater Beach Top 10. I totally agree that it is a very busy place to be over peak season and the ques for showers and the other facilities is somewhat longer than our shoulder or offpeak seasons. Changing your shower time was a sensible choice.
The deluxe cabins are our latest addition and yes they are again proving to be a very successful addition to the park.

Loved the campsite. Was only staying 1 night but succumbed to 2. Having family showers as well as normal male or female was a great innovation for us.
My only gripe is with other canmpers, not the owners. How on earth do you stop people throwing their used cigarette butts on the ground around the campsites. It is just awful. if you're a smoker, can you consider others before you throw your butt away around the campsite that I want to hire please!!!!

Thank you for your review. The family showers do prove very popular with our families groups, and also the timer for the hot water is located inside the shower which gives our customers the opportunity to shower alittle longer.

Cigarette butts, the gripe of our lives, we provide several bins for them but I am afraid to say that some of our customers do not see this as littering, your post may remind them!

Looking back at our 10 week holiday in New Zealand we reached the conclusion this was our favourite campsite. Due to the good and clean facilities, friendly staff, excellent location and, maybe, the excellent weather clouded our judgment.

The most expensive and least attractive (in the sense of facilities and service) of any Top10 parks we've been to so far. We were there in busy late December season with long waiting times for showers (number of showers can't cope with huge amount guests) or the use of the kitchen and everything was quite dirty. The location makes up for a lot though with Hahei & Cooks Beach close by. There is a fish and chip shop on site but it pays to drive the short distance to Hahei to save a lot of money.

The coromandel is definately a very busy place over peak time and yes there are ques for showers. Often people miss the other facilities we have in the park, and it is only a short walk to oanother block of showers and toilets are the other end. There is also another kitchen as shown on the park map which seems to get missed from time to time as well. Hopefully you will visit the coromandel again and maybe over some of our quieter months.

We stayed two nights on a non-powered site. The camground is very large and only a few steps away from Hot Water Beach. To Cathedral Cove and Hahei beach it's only a short drive.
There were many guests on the campground so it was sometimes a little bit crowed in the kitchen and the showers (they had only two showers, but some more unisex). But the facilities werde very clean.
You can rent spades for Hot Water Beach at the reception.

We hope you enjoyed your summer holiday on the coromandel. As you commented the park is very very busy over peak time and i sincerely hope most of our international visitors can travel alittle outside of peak times. This is not always the case but the best experiences i feel on the coromandel are outside of this hectic time.

We (retired couple) arrived in November - off season - with our very small camper van and were relegated to the very back "football" field. We did not need electricity and so this was the spot for us. But the place was pretty empty and it was quite a hike to get to the washrooms. This was the most expensive of any place we camped during our 14 days on the north island.
The office staff was very helpful. We purchased an internet card and were unable to get any sort of connection. After 30 minutes of trying with my phone I gave up and asked for help. I was told that the internet connection comes and goes. Asked for a refund which was given without hesitation.

Amazing kitchen - not that I needed it since we were self contained. Good showers. I think having a 5 minute limit on the shower is a good thing. I can imagine the crowds coming in from their "hot water beach experience" and standing and standing in the showers trying to get warm.

About the showers. I walked in first thing in the morning when the staff was trying to shovel out all the sand that the 'hot water bathers' brought in late the night before. Even though there are signs all over about washing off the sand before entering the building, obviously many people ignore this. When I returned from the beach (late at night) with all the shivering young people I did not see anyone wash off before entering the showers.

All in all, this is a great facility. You can walk to the beach. The kitchen is great. Big dining area. The "common area" was rather poor; cannot imagine what we would have done had it been pouring rain.

My only complaint would be that the cost for our self-contained, no electrical required, camper seemed a little steep for the off-season.

Thank you for posting a reply on our page, its always appreciated when people mention different issues that our park has to cope with over the busy summer season. I hope you will visit again and next time ask the girls if you can be put onto a site closer to the facilities. We usually like to spread people out as much as possible so they have more space, from time to time though customers ask to be closer to the facilities which is never a problem. We hope to see you here again soon.

We stayed in the 'deluxe cabin' although they are new, they are so hot with ants! There was also no where for wet washing, which when you are by a beach is not ideal. For the price they are, they should include a bathroom. Paying $110 a night and having to have a 5 min shower is a joke. The facilities were pretty clean, the receptionist was ok but not helpful. The hot water beach itself though is very cool and worth seeing.

We are glad you took the time to post a review for us, it is definately a much more expensive time to travel over peak period. Our fee does include free showers and the 6 minute timer for hotwater if an environmental initiative that we put in place. We appreciate that ants from time to time can be a problem at the beach and if you ask at reception the girls would be more than happy to come out and sort this issue for you. Outside your deluxe standard cabin are hooks for wet towels, i am sorry that you did not see them. Hopefully you will travel up this end of the country again and over the quieter period.
