My wife and I walked in around 8:30 and place was decently busy. We informed the young woman at the door that we would just sit at the bar and she replied, "OK, sure". The bar was not really full-service--just a short bar with some wine and liquor behind it, but there were five stools and condiments, so we knew that it should have been an area to be served. We waited awhile, then a waitress came behind the bar to make a drink, I said "Hi, how are you doing". She looks up and says "Hi", then finishes making the drink and walks off without another word. We waited another couple of minutes and decided to walk out. We were there about 6-8 minutes, where the only attention given to us was the utterances of "Hi", "Sure, OK", and "Hi". Inexcusable.

We went to Buck & Johnny’s last night for about the 15th time since it opened. I’m surprised I’ve never written a review on this place because it is deserving of all the positive press it can get.

Buck & Johnny’s is far more than a pizza restaurant. It is an Italian food restaurant with a Cajun flair. The pizza is among the very best in the Acadiana area, and we have so many good pizza places it would not be fair to declare just one as the very best. The specialty pizzas here are SUPURB. All of the pizzas have superior quality meats and cheeses. Many of the pizzas and other dishes include meats from the famous Poche’s meat market just a few miles from Buck and Johnny’s.

The atmosphere is special as this restaurant was built into the shell of an old auto dealership garage. Some of the old cans have been cut to make very interesting lamps. The décor is what you would expect in a major city and can best be described as sophisticated yet causal!

On a scale of 1-10 I would give Buck & Johnny’s a 9.5. Read all my reviews and you’ll realize that I rarely ever say a place should be ranked this high. It’s as close to perfection as possible without getting a 10!

Buck and Johnny's is a cozy, happy, delicious place to have dinner. I've had the meatball marinara several times. The portions are generous enough to enjoy for lunch or even for two lunches. The sauce is spicy. The hot food arrives at the table very hot, without fail.

The salads are excellent. I particularly like the very garlicky salad dressing of the Caesar salad.

Soups have been tasty, so far.

We have occasionally ordered pizza. It's a thin crust, regular or whole wheat, that leaves me hoping my dining companion won't want her crusts. The toppings are good. I only wish they had soy cheese, sigh. But this cheese is worth it. There are the standard toppings and also intriguing possibilities such as alligator sausage and tasso.

Desserts are from Lafayette's French bakery, Poupart's. That was smart!

The décor--this building used to be a car dealership. There are oil cans and old photos around, and intriguing ads on the tabletops under the glass. As a local resident, I am very thankful that the ugly, abandoned building has been transformed into a beautiful asset to our town.

There is live music some nights.

Buck and Johnny's is a comfortable, romantic restaurant. The food is local and delicious. I love going there.
