“Loved it!”
Reviewed December 1, 2013

This company is educated from everything about the wildlife to the history of the swamps. They are passionate about saving this place so future generations will enjoy it too. They follow the rules of not feeding the alligators to help protect the species and the people. Great company that educates and protect. Such a great trip and so inexpensive considering the memories you'll take home. Thanks Shawn!- the Tudyk's

“Fantastic”
Reviewed November 24, 2013 via mobile

My husband and I were booked for a Friday tour on our way to Texas, but due to the inclement weather the tour was cancelled. As I had wanted to do this tour for months and from home in Australia, we changed our trip and stayed in Breaux Bridge to catch the Sunday morning tour. What a brilliant tour, and Butch our guide was wonderful. He explained about the whole ecosystem in the swamp, including all the wildlife we saw. Though it was cold and a little windy we still saw an alligator, which made the tour. Definitely do not miss this value for money tour. Hopefully we'll be back one day.

“Private Swamp Tour”
Reviewed November 24, 2013

Butch gave us the best four hour tour you can imagine! As we only had one day in south Louisiana we decided to book our own private tour for four hours to get really thorough tour of the swamp. It was worth every single penny. Course, it helped that we started with a light mist/fog over the swamp and got some great pictures! If we had been birders we could've checked off multiple little birds from our life list. And even in November saw several alligators including a nest with
little ones crawling all over. Butch was a fountain of information and knew every thing you could possibly want to know about the swamp. Great fun, highly recommend!

“Respectful and thrilling swamp tour”
Reviewed November 20, 2013

This family run business is able to provide a great tour for a modest sum. Well worth the money. The bayou is beautiful and mysterious and Shawn, our tour guide, knew it well providing us with history, anecdotes, humor and facts about the swamp and its flora and fauna. The boat was a perfect size to navigate through the trees and the motor quiet enough to sneak up on alligators and the many birds, snakes and turtles. He also circled around letting us take photos from the best angle. The tour was supposed to be two hours but he seemed to be enjoying the trip as much as we were and since he had no more tours on that day, extended the tour an extra hour. His knowledge, understanding and respect for the importance and fragility of the ecosystem was reassuring, and he presented the bayou to us in all its unique beauty.

“Three Times - Perfect Experience”
Reviewed November 19, 2013

We just took our visitors (two young college students from the Czech Republic) on the Cajun Country Swamp Tour. The loved the experience. For us it was our third tour and we loved it once again. Previously, we took friends from California (our first trip) and another friend from New York (second trip). All three of those guests also had a great time. We have taken the tour twice with Shawn Guchereau and once with his father, Walter “Butch” Guchereau. Both men are very knowledgable about the wildlife and the history of swamp, and open to any questions guests may have. Importantly, they are both very sensitive to need to be good stewards of the beautiful and interesting habitat with which they have enjoyed all of their lives and which they realize could easily be destroyed (e.g., by commercialization of the area, by inappropriate treatment of the alligators to amuse & entertain tourists, and eventual dissolution of the cooperation and mutual respect that created this beautiful and fascinating ecological habitat. Each trip has provided exposure to so many alligators that I didn't photograph all of them! One trip, Butch carefully took us close to some baby alligators on the shore. Some young men were walking on the land nearby and he gently reminded them that the mother gator was somewhere nearby and that they should not get too close to the babies. Both Shawn and Butch explained a lot details about the gators, the birds, the plants, and overall swamp history and ecosystem. The time of year determines what birds will be present and each time we have gone we have seen enough beautiful birds to be pretty happy (e.g., herons, egrets, eagles, roseate spoonbills, and Anhingas). Each time, I, for one, learned something new despite the fact I thought I had gotten fairly knowledgeable after the first trip! Weather is important since you tour the swamp in an open boat. We live about 1.5 hours aways from Lake Martin and were told (when we made our reservations) that we could call ahead to check on the weather before heading out. This courtesy was much appreciated. I believe that most of the local people honor the policy that there are not supposed to be any permanent structures on the levy or in the swamp, so the only "facilities" available are two port-a-potties. When we arranged our first trip via a phone call, my wife was warned about the lack of real restrooms (so we could stop in Breaux Bridge if that was a concern). Once again this courtesy was much appreciated and we knew what to expect. Although might be nice to have real bathrooms available, a lot of commercial buildings on the levee and/or in the swamp would probably lead to the demise of the pristine Cypress swamp. Fortunately, the Nature Conservancy is literally protecting the bird rookery area at Lake Martin (and in the Spring when the roseate spoonbills are there it is fantastic). One hopes that Nature Conservancy will also help protect the whole habitat so that not too many bars and grills sprout up on the levy! On a sunny day, hats are a must (as are binoculars - of course). Although we normally bring some insect repellent along, we have not needed it (in the spring and in the fall - we have not been there in summer).
