We recently spent 5 days at this hotel, but because it was pre-arranged for our group. We made our reservations in July for two attached rooms (because of health problems) and reconfirmed the reservation at three different intervals- each confirmation assuring that the rooms were reserved, as requested. When we checked in, we found out the rooms were not reserved. After explaining the situation and providing dates of the recomfirmation- the desk clerk just said there's nothing she can do about it, with a care less, take-it or leave-it attitude. We had to settle for other rooms. On the way out to tell everyone the bad news about the room situation, there was a lady outside welcoming everybody into the hotel. When she asked me how everything was I told her about my disatisfaction with the room reservation situation. She said she would see what could be done. I really didn't know who this lady was or what postion she held in the hotel. I later found out that her name was Jan and she was the GM of the hotel. We unloaded the car and went to our rooms. Our room wasn't attached however, the other room had a door joining the another room. I went back to the desk and asked why couldn't I have the attached room. The desk clerk said that room was in a block of rooms. After further questioning I found out that the block of rooms that was asked for, none needed to be attached. I also found out that those rooms were reserved way after my reservation. After questioing the clerk again, she said she would need to check with someone else. She went into the back and came out and said that I only need to spend the one night in the other room and then in the morning they would move me into the other room. I said, since that room is vacant now, why do I need to wait until tomorrow morning before I can move in. Again, she went into the back and came out and said I could move into it right away. I knew we were in trouble when the desk clerk tried to explain to the person who had checked in earlier couildn't find the 7th floor on the elevator. He went to the elevator looking for the 7th floor but could not find a button for the 7th floor. The desk clerk explained to him that the hotel doesn't have a 7th floor in the building, but the attached, two story, building has the 7th floor (which is ground level) and the 8th floor is above it. The next morning, at breakfast I saw the same lady that was out if front of the hotel, the day before, cleaning dishes off the tables in the restaurant. Later that morning I met this lady again getting into the elevator. That's when I asked her who she was and she identified herself as the GM of the hotel. During our stay we ate breakfast in the restaurant because it was included with our room rate. Every breakfast we sat a different table. In total, we sat at 5 different tables. Every table top, every morning, was sticky and needed cleaning and usually missing some table condiments. There was supposed to be a cook on the buffet line frying eggs. A couple of days it was a cook, then there was a waitress and on one occassion the bookkeeper from the office was on the grill. Obviously, because of the food handleing and lack of cleanliness, Safe Serve requirements do not apply to this food service operation. It also wasn't unusual to go to the buffet line to get your food only to find upon return, someone else sitting in your seat. The hostess doesn't keep track of where she seats people and just sits them down in an empty seat. This happens about 5 minutes after she seats someone and then goes back and get someone else to sit in the same seat. It appears there are no assigned areas for the waitresses to work, since one would go to get your juice and coffee and another waitress would start taking cups and glasses from another table and tell you she'll be right back with the juice and coffee, meanwhile the first waitress is behind her, because she had already taken your order. The housekeeping is also slow. At 9AM in the morning, the housekeeper was two rooms away from cleaning our rooms. We purposly stayed away from our rooms to give her a chance to clean. At 1230, we figured she should be finished and we went to our rooms. She still didn't get to our rooms yet and was just next door. There also is a business center in this hotel. Don't bet on doing any business out of it. What you can bet on is the copier needing toner or paper, printer not working or out of paper. When they quit working, don't ask for help from the desk- they look at you as if it's not their job. This place was a real experience from the screwed up room resevation system to the screwed up banquet menu, that didn't get straightened out until the last minute. The sales and marketing staff really leave a lot to be desired. I have never seen such a collection unprofessional people working in a hospitality environment. It is my understanding that Jan, the GM, has only been there a short time. She appears to be a hands -on and caring individual. However, she has a tough road ahead of her with the problems with housekeeping, reservations & front desk, food service, and the inept, could care-less attitude, of the sales and marketing staff. I wish her good luck in trying to overcome these obstacles. I'm glad our stay is over in this hotel. I know that our group will never return to this hotel because of the problems we have experienced, and the many, many others in our group that have experienced the same or worse horror stories during this stay. Hopefully, this will serve as a fore warning to others before they make a commitment to this hotel.
