Owner description: Downtown Baton Rouge is a great place to hang out with its riverfront area, historic neighborhoods, Old State Capitol building and numerous restaurants and dance clubs.

Downtown BR isn't very happening. On 3rd street you'll find lots of bars, some good some bad. Food-wise Schlitz and Giggle is great for pizza and beer and Little Village is amazing for a nice dinner out. The capitol building is pretty much what you'd expect, but the old capitol is worth seeing, because it looks like a castle. LASM is good for the kids. Overall, it's not a terribly exciting place.

The east-west streets are okay but my goodness, there is almost no north-south street that goes more than a few blocks. River Road is probably the best one in that regard. Also, it is not the easiest thing to get on I-110 from downtown either with only a couple of entrance ramps.

Visited downtown's farmer's market and art fair at 5th and Main. Its not big but it does get crowded. Local produce, shrimp, pies, honey, salsa, BBQ.. They have it all. The first Saturday of each month also has Art of all kinds. Downtown also has some nightlife centered around 3rd avenue with clubs and restaraunts that offer some nice variety. Tsunami,, located atop the Shaw center building, offers great views of the river and bridge from the dining area . I just moved here and have enjoyed the clean downtown with a nice blend of activites.

I liked the new state capitol. I liked the European style street and cafes. There is a very nice white cathedral.Very romantic. I would not compare the downtown to any major city like New York but it is decent.

Not much to do down there. And there was a fresh blood trail that lasted for about 3 blocks...probably from the night before. I would never walk down there at night.
