It's probably all been said, but for a visitor from Europe it really is remarkable. Overlooking the immense Mississippi with its bulk carriers barely emerging from the water, it stands high on its bluff, in an unselfconscious grandeur of 19th-century medievalism outside and Arts and Crafts inside. The staircase is a glory, the historical exhibits simple but fascinating. Particularly interesting is the even-handed exhibit on Governor Huey Long, which shows a selection of evidence and opinion for, and an equal selection against, and invites you to make up our own mind about him. The volunteer staff members are entirely charming. It's a building that lifts the spirit: a real gem.

This museum was once the state capitol and t is beautiful. The state has just recently completed extensive period renovations. It has rooms with various archives that are interesting. it is interactive and has a great movie and life size Huey Long statue that speaks to you. I believe it is an essential museum for a visit to Baton Rouge

I love the beauty of the Old State Capitol building, the friendliness of the docents and the special displays with the voice and images of Huey P. Long. The museum has done a good job of portraying old Louisiana
