This historic building is quite amazing. Beautiful craftsmanship and holding up really well over the years. Our guided tour was informative but our guide kept repeating the same information over and over again (I can't tell you how many times we heard that they do weddings and receptions) and unfortunately we were interrupted two times with people being added into the tour which made it less than desireable. The tour is not all that long if you are not interrupted, I think they should have people wait for the next tour or set up set times for a tour and not keep adding as we go along. I appreciate the history, quality of craftsmanship and think this is worth a tour.

This place is beautiful! The building is free unless you want to watch the movie about the "ghosts." There is a lot of information about the history of the building, families that lived there, etc. For an out of state visitor, I really enjoyed learning about Huey Long and his legacy.

The stories that go along with the house make it a most enjoyable tour. Our guide, Mr. Ory, is 93 years young. He was delightful and full of information about the governors who once made this their home.

I was reading previous reviews and it sounds like some people are getting confused between the old capitol building the the old governor mansion.

This place is the mansion and the building is not that impressive, but a nice tour led by a very knowledgeable guide made it very educational and interesting.

When you are visiting Baton Rouge you should definitely go visit the Old Governor's Mansion...it is well worth the visit. It's is also a perfect place to take visiting friends or relatives and then dine out downtown. Historic properties like the Old Governor's Mansion need to be preserved and appreciated. Just lovely and the volunteers working there are so knowledgeable and helpful.
