Part of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, Woodford Reserve is sat between the rolling hills of Kentucky Horse Country by a beautiful scenic creek which provides the water to the well used to produce the bourbon. While I am personally not a fan of their bourbon, or bourbon in general, I enjoyed the tour of their distillery, which included the distillery and their barrel house. For this trip, their main Visitor's center was under renovation, however the staff kept things rolling in their temporary location in one of the building on the site. Did I mention you can smell the "Angel's Share" through out the facility? Great smells everywhere.

We visited this distillery last weekend, along with Buffalo Trace and Four Roses. Each distillery has its own unique experience and we enjoyed all three. Woodford Reserve was truly beautiful and the tour was very good. Our guide was very knowledgeable and VERY enthusiastic. They are very proud of their bourbon and will let you know it.

Beautiful buildings. Staff are extremely friendly - they seem to actually enjoy their jobs. Military personnel and retirees do not have to pay the entrance fee - thank you very much. You will receive a beginning-to-end explanation for how bourbon is made, and you'll get to see every step of the process. Highly enjoyed it, and highly recommend it.

I've been to Woodford several times and taken the tour, had the Picnic on the Patio and tastings. I also go there to shop for Christmas. The people are wonderful, the bourbon is supreme, the bourbon balls are to die for, and the over all experience and atmosphere are beyond words. You really MUST go and experience Woodford Reserve.

Beautiful buildings and grounds and a terrific education on bourbon making. I loved the smell (like banana bread) in the fermentation room. Because it's an historic site, they can't expand, which forces them to stay a small distiller (by comparison) adding to their charm. Oh, and the bourbon is really good, too, though it was just one shot after the tour was over. (Not quite as fun as the Maker's Mark tour which concludes with a multi-variety tasting and bottle-dipping if you want.) Still I like Woodford better, both in taste and the tour experience.
