“View the Unspoiled Beauty of Taylorsville Lake from a Kayak”

Taylorsville Lake State Park
Attraction details
Reviewed July 10, 2017

If you enjoy kayaking and taking in beautiful scenery, it's worth the trip to the Van Buren boat ramp at Taylorsville Lake. It's not a very busy boat ramp during the week and simple to launch your kayak from there. The beauty of Taylorsville Lake is in the all natural terrain......you will not see any private boat docks or houses from the water. For kayaking I recommend paddling up toward the river instead of toward the main body of the lake. Hardly any boat traffic up that way, easy paddling, and very, very scenic. You can make your kayak trip any distance to fit your needs.

We stayed 5 nights, central location for the Bourbon Trail. The camp sites are opened but spaced apart.

We just drove into the park on our way to some of the distilleries further to the south and west. Thought we might walk the dog a bit but the trail signs were a bit confusing despite the trail map I picked up at the Office Building. There is a nice big boat ramp with plenty of parking at the end of the main road and the lake is big and quite pretty sitting within a big forested area. There was a camping area as well. We were there on a weekday morning so we hardly saw a soul.

This park has something for all nature lovers. Great fishing, boating, camping facilities, and horse trails. There is a marina where you can bring your own boat or rent a boat/pontoon for a day.

Picked this campground knowing little about it and found a beautiful lake and campground with beautiful sites. When we reserved we asked the woman for a recommendation and we certainly understood why she recommended number 7. It was private and we could park right next to it. It was a huge wooded site. Our tent was set near a pond even if it was a bit green. Our campfire over looked a slope down into a valley with plenty of space to put up a screen tent far from our next neighbor. We had a bit of a walk to the very nice bathhouse. Lots of trails of varying length. Even visited by a skunk and small house. Fun Halloween weekend.
