“A fascinating view of another world”
Reviewed November 13, 2012

This village was fascinating. The big house was so beautiful and the life story of the community so fascinating. The style of the furniture is famous but to see it in situ and context was really worthwhile. Also to learn about how the community was arranged in the nineteenth century was really interesting. Recommended!

“A glimpse of a lost way of living”
Reviewed August 24, 2012

Only a small portion of this Shaker village still remains and has been turned into a museum, but they have done a good job with what is left. Your visit starts in the visitor center where a 10 minute film explains the lifestyle of the Shakers and the history of the village. The bulk of the exhibits are in a 4 story residence called Centre house. Most of 40 rooms are dedicated to displaying artifacts and elements of the lifestyle of this community which ones supported about 200 buildings. The exhibits are in good condition and are supported by good story boards. There is a cemetary, barn, and a couple of other buildings in a lovely, quiet corner of Kentucky.

“Interesting Historic Location: A Different Lifestyle: Shaker Village”
Reviewed August 13, 2012

I took my sister, who is a history buff, to visit the Shaker Museum which is located in the farm land area of South Union, Kentucky. What a delightful step back in time. The buildings allow you to capture a glimpse of life as a Shaker (hard working, industrious, creative and innovative.) The grounds are easy to walk and great opportunities are made available for photos.

A couple of the original buildings have been restored and a museum shop is available. Overnight lodging is also available.

“Good school trip”
Reviewed August 1, 2012

The kids (and grown ups) had a great time hearing about and seeing how it used to be. We saw shearing of sheep, the old school section, antique items, spinning wheel in action, The employees were dressed the part and it was just a great visit.

“Interesting history”
Reviewed May 27, 2012

Self guided tour with people available to answer questions. The buildings are well cared for and the history of the Shakers is facinating. Lots of pictues of the residents and comments from their journals.
