We had a difficult time finding the site as Streets and Trips location was off. We did see a sign at the intersection of 25 and 421 split, we were looking the wrong way and drive right past perhaps because of the distraction of construction near that intersection. Look for a Brick colonial style house with a U shaped drive on the East side of 421. Previous reviews well cover the depth of the displays. The laser presentation and the Historical timeline video were highlights. Much work has been done to set up viewing stations along the old state highway. We did not have the time to take them in.

Easy access of I-75. Visitor center seems unassuming from the street, but has some nice displays on the battle and Kentucky's role in the Civil War. Electronic map showing troop movements is very informative & state of the art; it definitely gives the visitor a good understanding of how the battle unfolded. Good orientation films and overall impressive for a county park. Battlefield itself is a short drive down the road. It has some interpretative signage and a couple short hiking trails. Visitor center also offers a driving tour that includes sites inside Richmond itself; I didn't have time to make all the stops. Overall, this site is recommended for someone with a serious interest in the Civil War.

We stopped on a whim, following the signs off of I-75. The grounds for the Battle of Richmond are unassuming, but as soon as you enter the Visitor's Center, you are able to get a TRUE sense of the magnitude of the Civil War fighting that occurred there. Owned by Madison County, the Visitor's Center has the unique ability to give people the opportunity to actually handle items used during the Civil War including an impressive array of handmade quilts (many from the private collection of the director) and clothing items. My favorite part was actually the laser map with accompanying video that gives you a 3 D representation of the battle's progression as you watch/listen to accounts of what happened during the Battle of Richmond.

The gentleman that assisted us at the Battle of Richmond Visitor's Center shared a lot of interesting facts with us and allowed our 11 year old to try on some Civil War bonnets. As a former principal, he was able to place the events of the battle in a context that was easy to understand for us and our daughter.

Our only regret is that we were not visiting during the Re-enactment Days (August 25-26 this year). We were told there were opportunities to camp on the actual battleground for civilians (too bad I am not a tent sorta girl).

Fascinating way to learn about the Civil War! Definitely worth the drive off the expressway!

If you have any interest in the Civil War or the Quilt Trail, this is a great place to visit as it is most interesting. I just loved the small version of the Gettysburg Map, one depicting the Battle of Richmond. Also, there are many interesting items for viewing. Phillip Seyfrit, the director, is dresssed in an authentic Civil War Uniform.
