“Don't Go!”
Reviewed November 23, 2013

My husband and I have just returned from a stay at the Fox Briar Inn in Paducah. We were very disappointed in the accommodations. The room that we stayed in 108 B had a very strong unpleasant odor. Although this is an old building, the general appearance is a bit old and definitely not in keeping with the historic era. The price event thought there is a kitchen and living area, is not worth it. I have stayed in other condo/inn rooms over the years- and this is OVER PRICED!!
The worst part is that this is supposed to be a NO SMOKING Inn. When we came home from dinner we entered the building and the smell of tobacco smoke was terrible. The stair to our room was filled with smoke odor and the odor permeated our hall and bedroom.
I called the office and someone came to check it out and informed us that no one was smoking. But obviously someone was and the smell eventually subsided somewhat at around 2:00 am. in the morning. When I complained, I was told that no one had ever complained before and everyone loves the place. I would not recommend the Fox Briar Inn at Riverplace... Find somewhere else to stay.....

My wife and I stayed at the Fox Briar recently as my 30-year high school reunion was scheduled to be held in downtown Paducah. We thought this would allow us to have a getaway night in addition to the reunion.

It was truly a getaway.

The room is a little high for Paducah, but...it's not just a room. Ours was a huge apartment, complete with a dining room, kitchen, and living room, which allowed us to have friends over both before and after the event. The living room included a couch and love seat, along with chairs, that allow for several guests.

The spacious apartment is decorated with antiques, and each one is unique. Ours overlooked downtown Paducah, and was within quick walking distance of several nice restaurants.

Super experience. My only gripe would be the lack of window treatments, as the sun began blaring through the bare windows quite early.

Room Tip: One: check in early, as there is no evening staff at the site to get you into your room after about...

If staying in downtown Paducah is of interest to you (and I highly recommend it over any of the hotels near the Interstate) staying at the Fox Briar is a wonderful experience. Granted, this may not appeal to all travelers. Check-in is preferred between 3-5pm. After 5, no one is around to check you in. If you plan on arriving after 5, all you need to do is call 30 minutes before your arrival and arrangement. are made to get you checked in. In my case, I met someone at the Ice Cream Factory (one of the stores located below the rooms of the Inn) who gave me the room key, gave me a credit card receipt (pay in full at check-in), explained how the building keys worked (same key as room key; however, one entrance locks automatically and another entrance you must manually lock the exterior door) and then showed me the room. There is an elevator. I only stayed for one night; since your essentially getting an apartment, it's a great place for extended stays. My room was 112a which faces Broadway and has a view of the Ohio River. The room is on the second floor. Entering through the kitchen, a hallway leads through the apartment, with the bathroom, bedroom, and living room off the
hall. There is a window and writing desk at the end of the hall. The bedroom and living room do not connect. Although the bedroom is an interior room, there is a small, frosted window in the upper part of the wall separating the bedroom and the living room which allows just the right amount of morning light through via the large living
room windows. You can enter the bathroom from either the bedroom or hallway. The apartment is tastefully decorated; there are plaster walls (some isolated peeling in spots) and electrical lines (conduit?) are visible. High ceiling; great large windows; half plantation shutters. The Inn is in a great location very close to some nice restaurants and shops. The nearby riverfront is great for either an evening or morning stroll. Overall, I recommend for travelers who enjoy historic properties and staying in unique hotels. The downtown location is a plus for easy walking distances to several restaurants.

My husband and I stayed for one night on December 30th. The staff was very friendly. We stayed in 116B and it was perfect. Very clean, very nice. It is SO much better than a hotel! We will definitely be back!!

This was our first time in Paducah and we stayed over in mid December. We were the only guests in the Inn and arrived at 5 PM. The door was closed and all the shops in the complex too. Luckily the guy who was suppose to wait for us decided to walk outside and got us in, He was in a hurry because it was 1 minute to five and wanted to go home. So we got the key of our (huge) apartment and he was gone, telling us to be careful with the outdoors - otherwise we couldn't get in again that night. There was no place to eat or to get breakfast...
The apartment itself is very nice. A loft kind of place with a great view of the river, whirlpool, complete kitchen, living room, bed room etc. The downside is that the bed is put sideways in a corner of the bedroom so you do not have a headboard, which is not very comfortable while reading in bed or such things. Temperature is arranged by a noisy air conditioning system which works OK. We had dinner around the corner at a perfect place: restaurant Max and had to go to Applebees in the morning for breakfast along our way to Memphis. We left the keys at the reception and closed the door of the Inn behind us - there was nobody there...
Maybe it is perfect in the summer - it has a lot of potential.

Room Tip: we had 116B which is a huge apartment

We enjoyed our stay Fox Briar despite the couple of hiccups we encountered. This accomodation is apartment style above a very pretty row of shops in the heart of Paducah. The photos on their website accurately show the apartments.

We booked the 2 bedroom apartment but received an email a few days before we were due to arrive saying they had accepted a long term lease on the apartment so we would have to take 2 smaller apartments. That was ok with us but it meant that one of us didn't have a shower - only a bath. This is pricey accomodation and I couldn't quite believe you'd renovate to such a lovely high standard but not ensure every bathroom had a proper shower. We had looked carefully at all the available apartments to find 2 adjoining that both had showers but in the end booked the 2 bedroom one so we could both use the shower in one of the ensuites.

We loved the 2 units we had - one above the other. The lower one was beautifully decorated and had lovely windows at the front looking across at the river and flood murals. It did seem a bit of a shame to have an enormous living room with 2 sitting areas at the back of the apartment where there was no view and the front room with a view being a dining room. The bedroom had a lovely view too. The kitchen and laundry facilities were excellent.

The upper apartment was a little smaller and although perfectly finished it was a more modern style (black, red and silver). It had every necessary facility and a huge spa bath as well as a separate shower. The only draw back of this apartment was that the large bed was set at an angle to the corner of the room. It wasn't a bed with a bedhead so you couldn't sit up in bed to watch tv or write - there was nothing to lean against and the pillows fell back off the bed. It did have a gorgeous red and white quilt hanging behind the bed.

For the price I would have expected daily servicing of the apartments but this wasn't available.
We had a lunch and a breakfast at Kirchoff's Bakery after reading good reviews. We preferred the items from the bakery to sit down meal we had at the cafe.
The coffee in the adjoining coffee shop, Etcetera, was excellent.
We had dinner the first evening at Shandies, just a few doors down from Fox Briar. The meal was so good that we went back again the next night. Highly recommended.
Overall we very much enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: Be aware that some apartments do not have a shower, only a bath.

Very clean, huge room or X-condo? 1100 square feet for two with full kitchen. Decor could be bit updated/lingering 80's in an art oriented town. Room/kitchen/bath all very clean. Surprised to learn no children allowed and this huge space only accommodates two - a sleep sofa addition would be perfect for two couples or a family. Location ideal - walk to breakfast, shops, galleries, restaurants, Quilt Museum, cinema, cultural arts center! The river and all it's muraled walls are next to hotel. Paducah is a wonderful place to visit.
