I heard from a family member about the mutton here, so I stopped by on the way home for Thanksgiving. OMG!! I had the mutton and it was so tasty and so good, I stopped by again on my way back to Florida. The burgoo was really tasty on the first visit and the blackberry cobbler with ice cream was outstanding for the ride back home.

The restaurant was very clean and the service was top notch. My only regret is this place is 850 miles away from my house. I will go back over the Christmas holiday.

If you want real BBQ Old Hickory is the place to eat. You get generous portions at a great value. We have always had good service with friendly staff. The desserts are also wonderful, especially the blackberry cobbler with ice cream. Definitely stop in if your in town.

Have lived in this region for about 62 years. I have eaten at Old Hickory many, many times, gone through the drive-thru, and gotten barbecue for family gatherings; even had hams barbequed for Easter. Old Hickory's prices are reasonable but have increased since their recent remodeling. However, they did need an updating to the interior. The restaurant specializes in barbecue mutton, pork, and burgoo along with chicken, potato salad, slaw, pork n'beans, sweet onion, french fries, and onion rings. The restaurant is small but locals keep it busy because Old Hickory really does have the best barbeque in Owensboro. When my sister, who lives near Philadelpia, comes for a visit she always eats at Old Hickory because she says no one in Philadelphia knows how to make real barbecue like we do in Owensboro.

Locals who love BBQ head to Old Hickory. It's been a part of the neighborhood and town for decades. The prices are great and their food is truly homemade - you can order it right "off the pit."

Great place for BBQ just got better as they have newly renovated and added to the building and now also have a waiting area. They also added mashed potatoes and green beans to the menu which it a great addition for those who do not like slaws and baked beans. The drive thru has been upgraded as well!
