“Great price for a short stay”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

These "cottages" were very clean with good sheets & towels provided. Kitchen appliances were totally adequate & everything worked well. We only stayed one night but think it would be a nice place for a weekend. It is definitely not the normal definition of a cottage but it is a good place to stay right across the road from the water. It's a lovely view of the sailing boats and on a fine day it would be nice to sit out on the little verandah. It was very cold the night we were there and we were cold inside the room. There is a fantastic heater though so perhaps we should have had it on all night, rather than switch it off when we went to bed. We had 3 of us in a one bedroom cottage because this was all they had available. The Queen bed was comfortable, so was the single in the lounge room. The bathroom was very small but served its purpose. "Sass" restaurant down the road at the Kermandie Pub is an excellent place to eat...5 min drive away. I would stay here again if in the area but only for a short stay.

Room Tip: The rooms are right on the road but traffic did not bother us once the sun went down. I would go fo...

The cottages were very clean and although they weren't large rooms, they were comfortable for two people. There is plenty to see and do in the Huron valley so give yourself more than two days . Wished we stayed longer.

Pros- Clean and tidy, great views nice cooking setup and quite modern

Cons- very little privacy, bed is rock hard and linen is fresh out of the 80,s. quite poky and small.
Reminded me of staying in a caravan park cottage but its a bit newer.
Not really romantic at all.

We have just stayed in Port Huan Cottages during a spell of nasty cold weather so early in autumn and thoroughly enjoyed watching the storms brewing over the lake and the mountains beyond from inside our lovely unit. I was surprised to find these negative comments about Port Huan Cottages. For this very moderate price you don't usually get such a million dollar view, nor many of the other extras. There were two pillows to choose from, an extra comfy doona in the wardrobe, great reading lights over the bed with easy to access switches, a second TV in the bedroom, stereo in the sitting room, a well equipped kitchen (and of course including everything to do your washing up). The club chairs and puff were very comfy, the electric wall heater was efficient and kept the the whole unit warm at night if you left the bedroom door open. There were a hairdryer and heating in the bathroom, and nice big and fluffy towels. How come nobody mentioned any of those? The owner and manager were both very friendly and bent over backwards to make our stay enjoyable. They even left their computer running over night so I could have continuous use of their WiFi (Telstra is a bit fickle around here). We parked on the suburban street right behind our unit, but it would really not have been far to walk from the carpark either. We were given ample fresh milk and were offered more if we needed it. To the person who wanted condiments in the kitchen: you usually only find this in very high priced accommodation or in youth hostels. In the case of the latter it is left behind by other travellers. You could have bought some and left them for us!

Room Tip: Unit 3 is at the back and is possibly a little protected from the road noises, but still the views a...

The cottage we stayed at was roomy, clean and comfortable. The bed bed was firm and just right. Wish there was a choice of pillows. With the room in the cottage, surely a couch could have been provided, would have made it even more comfortable. The views are beautiful.
Only drawback was the steps to get down to the cottage and then back up again. Not very dissabled or elderly friendly.

We stayed in a 1 br cottage and really enjoyed our time by using this place as a base. The views from the cottage over the water were lovely and it was very clean. The pillows were a little hard but ok. We had a couch so we were lucky! The basic cooking requirements were provided. We travelled to Bruny Island which is well worth the experience and did the Tahune airwalk too. Be sure to buy all of your food etc at Huonville before you arrive. There is a laundry on site.

Room Tip: They are all great as they all have water views.

Booked a room for a romantic getaway. The room was clean however most definitely not designed as a romantic location. Instead of a 2 seater couch that would allow you to sit by each other, it had 2 separate chairs. Very impersonal. Heater was barely adequate.
Decided to take a lay down only to find the bed was like laying on a slab of concrete. Still the heater wasn't doing the job so we headed for the spa- the primary reason for booking at the location. Turning on the spa, we were greeted by orange rusty water. We decided to let the water run clear for 5 minutes- the water never ran clear and we most certainly weren't going to submerge ourselves in what can only be described as orange water. We were less than impressed and decided that we would rather spend the night in our own bed that an uncomfortable and freezing night there.
