“Good stop right off the highway”
Reviewed June 9, 2012

We were traveling from Newport News, VA to Indiana and stopped here overnight to break up the trip. It is a very nice, new Hampton Inn, with all of the usual amenities. The location is convenient, directly off the highway, but we passed it at first because it is sitting behind a Cracker Barrel and easy to miss from the road. Most of the restaurants are chain and fast food. However, if you go into town (4 mile drive) there are a few local restaurants. We dined at Melini Cuzina, which was great. There was also a Mexican restaurant, steakhouse, Japanese restaurant, and Country diner nearby. We did not notice a smoking odor in the hotel, as mentioned in another review. We were staying on the first floor.

Was here for baseball tournament. There was a problem with the booking of our double/double room. The manager was extremely apologetic. The hotel only had one other room a king with a pull out and he brought in a rollaway bed. He put us in a large oversized handicapped room and deeply discounted the rate. They bent over backwards to make the situation right! If we play in the same tournament next year, I will only stay here! The choices are quite limited at Morehead ky for hotels and this is the best in the area! Thanks Hampton inn!

Unlike other Hampton Inn properties, this one has smoking rooms, which are located on the third floor. Unfortunately, the cigarette smoke from those rooms flows through the bathroom ventilation ductwork, thereby leaving a very noticeable stale smoke odor in the non-smoking rooms. Hallways and lobby area are thankfully not affected, but it is a problem that hold be addressed. Free breakfast leaves much to be desired. It's OK if you can get by with a bowl of cereal or oatmeal, but if you want a full meal with eggs and breakfast meat, your best bet is to walk across the street and have a real meal at the new Cracker Barrel restaurant. Sorry, Hampton, but lukewarm French Toast sticks (especially when one can already make waffles) and the thinnest bacon strips known to mankind does not a satisfying breakfast make. Pool is on the small and cold side, plus there's no hot tub. Aside from the awful stench of stale cigarette smoke, the rooms are in good condition, complete with a microwave and waist-high refrigerator. Front desk is friendly and their service is definitely first class, with requests handled promptly.

For some reason we were given a room with 2 queens and it was a handicap room. The room was huge, bigger than our living room at home. The view was awful. If you got on your knees and scrunched down, you might be able to see daylight. Our room looked onto the roof of the entrance. The motel was not full so I don't know why we were given this room.
The bathroom was very large but the shower stall was terrible. It was made out of plastic and it creaked and squeaked whenever you moved. It woke up my husband! I was afraid the plastic was going to crack, I have never seen a shower made out of this material.
Breakfast was better than we've been finding on this trip. There was bacon, little southwestern omelets and a cinnamon cake.

This hotel offers a little bit of everything. The rooms and bathrooms are clean and I wasn't able to discern any noticeable odors (which I find all too frequently). The hotel staff were extremely helpful and did everything they could to help meet your needs.

There's a business center for using a computer and/or printer, a pool and a workout area. It doesn't have a lot in it....but at least it has the basics. Each room has a fridge, microwave and coffee maker, which makes a longer stay much more enjoyable.

The common areas are spacious and comfortable and the breakfast buffet has a lot to choose from. They also provide fresh cookies every afternoon....which are delicious!

The only drawback is the internet access. There is wireless internet available but it has a time limit, and I was never clear on exactly how long that limit was (but it wasn't long). I felt as though I was logging into their network every single time I went to use the system and had to do so for every device I was using.

Other than that, this hotel has a great location and all of the amenities and it's a great value for the money. I would stay there again.

We had the wonderful opportunity of spending a couple of weeks at the Hampton Inn and found the staff to be very kind and most helpful. The hotel offered a free WiFi connection and the morning breakfast was most yummy. The bed and bedding very comfortable. Worth the stop for anyone in the Daniel Boone Mountain area.

I was in town on business and stayed here. We had very nice, clean, quite room. The front desk staff was very helpful. The breakfast wasn't amazing, but it was much better than a standard continental breakfast. Quick access to I-64. The room rate was reasonable. I would go back without hesitation and would recommend this hotel to anyone needing to stop in Morehead.
