“Still in use!”
Reviewed September 15, 2012

It was fairly easy to find with the directions we had. I recommend Googling it and checking out different sites about it, though one of the reviews here did a good job telling the directions. I thought the most interesting thing about the bridge was that it is still used. I wasn't expecting that! The other two covered bridges I've been to in KY were not, so driving through it was a nice change. Two things I wasn't super pleased with about this one: you can't get a decent shot of the length of the bridge because the foliage is so grown up on both sides, and that being, there was not a clear way to get down to water level. However, if you go when the leaves are changing colors, all that colorful foliage near the bridge could make for some lovely pictures. You decide. :)

“Hard to find, but worth it!!”
Reviewed July 2, 2009

It took us a while to find this one, even with a GPS, ( the key is to put in Redmon Road, and then Colville Road) but when we did, I was excited. I think you would have to have a passion for these bridges to appreciate it, but if you do, then you need to check this one out. It is in a most beautiful part of Kentucky, and is so peaceful and serene. This is a covered bridge that you can still drive through, which makes it all the more interesting.

“Rare Sight”
Reviewed March 30, 2007

One of only 13 covered bridges left in the commonwealth of Kentucky, the Colville bridge was built in 1877 in Bourbon County near Paris. It was extensively renovated after it was damaged by floods in 1997 and was recently reopened to traffic and is one of only a handful of covered bridges that can be driven through.

Covered bridges were first built in the 1790s but did not become widely popular until after 1814. They were covered to protect them from the weather. At one time there were more than 400 covered bridges in Ky. The timbered spans have played a romantic role in our history. Some were destroyed during the Civil War. The remaining ones are a nostalgic link with the past.

Make sure you have your camera!
