Description: It's hard to find a soothing palette of beige and cream, much less one whose walls are adorned with whimsical, painting-size "cutouts"; whose backlit bar is simultaneously sleek, warm and inviting; and whose food doesn't allow the design to do all the work. But there's one place. Heirloom is Lexington's small-town neighbor with seriously sophisticated cuisine. Owned by chef Mark Wombles and his father, Henry, the restaurant came out of the gate in 2006 to acclaim. Its standard has remained high, with only occasional slips. Now, however, with Nicolas True blood — formerly of The Mansion at Griffin Gate — as chef de cuisine, Mark Wombles' original vision of using fresh, local ingredients to create Kentucky dishes with a global sensibility and a hint of California influence is being met and exalted.

This restaurant was recommended by Leslee at Equus Run. She definitely was right about the food, atmosphere and the staff. We were pleasantly surprised at the variety on the menu and overall our experience was quite delightful. I would definitely recommend The Heirloom to anyone who wants to enjoy a memorable meal. The wine and beer are excellent.

“Excellent Food, but Noisy Atmosphere”
Reviewed November 17, 2013

This is likely one of the best restaurants in Woodford County Kentucky. This is fine dining with an assortment of prices. It has a good variety on the wine list. Service was not stellar, but the food was wonderful. The only reason we would not give it a 5 is the noise. The waitress had trouble talking above the din, and we struggled at times to hear one another at the table. The floors, walls, and ceiling have no acoustical treatment.

Still, if you wish fine dining while visiting the area, this is the place to go.

“Inheriting a Heirloom”
Reviewed October 28, 2013

A friend introduced us to Heirloom in the charming village of Midway after attending the Keeneland Race Track's final event on October 26, 2013. We wanted to celebrate my wife's birthday and couldn't have asked for better atmosphere, service or food. And compared to the prices in our hometown of Cincinnati, this place is a bargain! Not only did we have a great 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon with dinner, 3 FAB entrees and a desert even with tip all of this was less than $ 150.00!?! We met Harry the owner who deserves credit for being a visionary and one of the nicest people I've ever met in the restaurant biz. Don't even ask IF we'll be back--just a question of when!

“A gem of a restaurant in Bluegrass country”
Reviewed October 19, 2013

In the quaint and pretty little town of Midway, KY, just outside Lexington, there is a not-to-miss restaurant named Heirloom. We had very friendly and helpful staff, chatted with the owner and his chef/son, and enjoyed a great lunch of BBQ chicken sliders with cheese grits and fried chicken with fresh arugula. Inexpensive. Worth the visit and the surrounding drives through the horse farm country is an added attraction.
