The lobby is gorgeous. Make sure to go down to the lower level to see the Rothskeller. It's an older hotel, but it has that charm and romance about it. The staff are very helpful, and treat everyone like a VIP.

This is a great hotel in the grand tradition. For those expecting large rooms and sumptuous baths, however, you will be disappointed. Yet, if you want friendly staff, comfortable beds, a nice fitness room, and perhaps the best restaurant in Louisville, this is your place to stay.

A shuttle van with a friendly driver picked me up at the airport and brought me to the hotel, located near 4th Street Live, a bar/restaurant/nightclub entertainment district. That same driver volunteered to drive a van full of guests to the wedding when one of the shuttle buses was delayed. It was very cold the weekend I was there, so the streets were relatively quiet, but I could see this being a rowdy area at night. Noise WAS an issue on my floor. One suggestion for the hotel: post signs asking for quiet in the hallways after, say, 9 p.m. Rowdy, inebriated guests coming in at 2 and 3 a.m. woke me several times during my stay. Soundproofing was probably less of a concern when this hotel was originally built since guests probably behaved better.

WiFi service was decent and as a Hilton Gold member, I did not have to pay for it. I was in town for a wedding, so the complimentary shoeshine was appreciated. Food at the reception and the Sunday breakfast buffet was very good, but the culinary star of the show was The Oakroom. After an initial chilly greeting, the service matched the quality of the food -- superb. Prices are not for the faint of heart, but this CIA-trained chef and his dessert chef prepared a memorable meal, from lobster bisque through a trio of pork called "Three Little Berkshire Pigs," consisting of a bacon- wrapped loin, hoppin’ john risotto, bourbon & maple belly confit, celery root puree, smoked shoulder, and a bourbon (of course) roasted fuji apple with BBQ demi glace.

There is no pool, but the health club has a variety of cardiovascular equipment with CV TVs and headphones, in case you forgot yours. What was lacking in my room were enough electrical outlets that business travelers need to power all devices brought on any trip.

I have stayed in the Marriott downtown and enjoyed it, but since the wedding reception (with group rate) was here, of course, I chose the Seelbach. I'm glad I did. It's Gatsby pride continues to shine.

Room Tip: Stay away from rooms near the elevator. Late night revelers may quiet down by the time they move dow...

First, let me say if you like the early 20th century grand hotels, this is one of 2 places you must stay in Louisville. The Seelbach is a gorgeous facility and it is conveniently located downtown. The valet staff and room service was on top of their game, but otherwise the service was Ho hum. We never saw housekeeping in 2 days and had to call for towels. Left at 8 one morning and returned at 3, room hadn't been touched and I couldn't even find a maid cart on the entire floor. Also had some garbage under our sofa from previous guests. We had a drink at the world famous Seelbach Bar. Once again, beautiful place, but Ho hum staff. Definitely not worthy of the accolades they receive compared to other bars in a town loaded with great bars. And $15 for a basic premium bourbon is outrageous.
I may be too harsh but only because I'm comparing to fantastic stays at the Seelbach in previous years. Nonetheless, it seems they could be resting on the laurels of this gorgeous facility. Service wise they no longer compare to the other grand Louisville staple down the street. I hope this changes because otherwise, the Seelbach has always been one of my favorite hotels.

I love the Seelbach Hilton, it has a classic beauty to it. Everything about it speaks high class. The staff were all excellent. I also love its location on 4th street - lots of great bars/restaurants! The bar at the hotel was also a great place for a drink.

Excellent hotel with amazing service. The hotel staff all went out of their way to be helpful and welcoming. THe hotel has a great location close to 4th street live with many restaurants and bars within walking distance. It is also close to the river for walking or running. The hotel boasts an amazing history. Parking is a little expensive.

Classy old time joint. It tries to meet business needs but will be staying at the Hilton Garden Inn when it opens just down the street. For a romantic get-a-way weekend, it would be great. The Oak Room is lovely but a bit pricey. The whiskey selection at the bar is amazing!

Located in the heart of downtown Louisville within walking distance to excellent restaurants and 4th Street Live. Whether it is business or pleasure the Seelbach is a step above high end hotels. You won't be disappointed.
