“First class, historic hotel”
Reviewed July 5, 2013

This hotel is located within walking distance of Louisville's downtown, restaurants and museums. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Their southern charm and the beautiful, historic decor reminds you of a time when a hotel stay was an elegant and special event.

I cannot say enough about the level of service provided by the GM, Brad Walker. He has gone above and beyond any expectations that I had. The property is just beautiful and my husband and I are looking forward to being long-term, repeat guests of this lovely hotel.

This hotel could and should be top notch. Unfortunately, it lacks several details that prevent this. The hotel itself is beautiful and the rooms are nice. When we arrived, there was no one there to direct us upstairs to the lobby. As I was walking upstairs, a bellman came down with his mouth full and waved at me. He ended up actually being helpful, but his whole demeanor was unpolished. Check in was fine and we used self parking, which turned out to be nice and convenient. We stayed on the club level, but the club is only open very limited hours. This was an inconvenience. The first two days we were there, the lady hosting the club was very snotty. She hardly spoke to people. The next two days another was there and was a little better. The employees were not very friendly in general. One of the days we left for several hours, and returned mid-afternoon. The room had not been cleaned. When we left for dinner, we asked the front desk to have it serviced because it hadn't been cleaned. When we returned that night, they had left clean towels, but had not done anything else, including emptying the trash. When I expressed my disappointment the next day, I was just told they were sorry and would address it with housekeeping. We had expected more from this "full service luxury hotel". Unfortunately, it did not deliver.

I had the wonderful luck to have the opportunity to stay at this beautiful historic hotel for a business convention in June 2013. The room was very large, well lit and comfortable. I valet-parked my vehicle for the 3 nights I was there. The guys in the valet area were all relatively young, but oh-so helpful, polite and went above & beyond my expectations. I had some very large boxes that had to be unloaded for the convention & re-loaded afterwards. They were all very accommodating. I requested that a refrigerator be put in my room, which was available upon request, and it was present, plugged in & nice & cool when I returned from our day's excursion. Any extra requests I had during my stay were answered with an enthusiastic smile and a 'absolutely!'

We loved our stay at The Brown! Such a wonderful staff, all so friendly and extremely helpful. The building itself is stunning; Art Deco at its best. It is a study in civility and old world charm, yet has all the modern amenities. We found the rooms well appointed and comfortable. The location is great also, just a few blocks away from 4th St. Live, but there are several restaurants closer also.

We stayed in Brown Hotel for one night and we absolutely loved it.
The hotel is located only two blocks away from 4th street restaurants. The lobby is the highlight of this hotel. All the original decorations, crown moldings and paintings are very well preserved. This gives a nice character to the hotel.
Check in process was fast and the front desk staff were really nice and helpful. Our room was decent in size. The bathroom was large and clean.
The only problem was one our pillows which had some stains on it. I believe such a thing should not be seen in a hotel at this scale.
Otherwise, everything else was pleasant and elegant.
If you enjoy staying in historic hotel with character, this should be on your list to go.

The Brown Hotel in Louisville offers a view of the traditional Southern character of Louisville without the discriminatory practices that marred "Southern hospitality" for many years. Built in the 1920's and catering to the horse-racing crowd of high livers, it has elegant decor, plush furnishings, wonderful bathrooms, and of course, the splendid "Hot Brown" sandwich (turkey, bacon, rich sauce), which can be ordered any hour of the day or night. The service is superb, the bar endowed with dozens of bourbons. Our waitress, who looked as though she had grown up on an Iowa farm, was an expert at describing the bar's offerings. Our waiter at lunch was equally attentive. We would go there again in a heartbeat (as long as we don't eat too many Hot Brown sandwiches.) The piped music was swing and jazz from the 30's, 40's, and early 50's: friendly and irresistible.

Thank you so much for your nice thoughts.
