“Beautiful Historic Hotel - Perfect for the Complete Derby Experience!”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

Stayed at the Brown this past weekend for the Oaks and Derby Races. From the moment we walked in it was like being swept back in time. The lobby is expertly preserved and the hotel staff is so friendly and welcoming. We stayed on the Club Level - upon arrival we had a bottle of Champagne and chocolate strawberries along with a welcome note and a commemorative Derby Silver platter and a box of chocolates. What a way to start a weekend! We dined in the hotel restaurant on Friday night and had the prefix menu - which was a bit disappointing because my husband and I both really wanted to try the Hot Brown. The food was served in small portions and was a bit lack luster - we really expected more from all the reviews we previously read but, service was fantastic and we didn't let this dampen our mood. If there is any advice I could give to the Hotel management is that they really need to update the bathrooms in the hotel rooms. The shower head was outdated and old and the tub was really gross with paint chipping off. The shower curtain did not hold back the water which lead to a wet bathroom floor. With all this being said - the beds are comfy and pillows are perfect. We did get the Hot Brown before departing and we are glad we did. It is something to try if you are into sandwiches.

Room Tip: Choose club level if you can - the rooms are well appointed and the club lounge is worth the extra p...

This hotel is glamorous the minute you walk in. There are friendly doormen and you really feel as if you are set back in time when entering The Brown Hotel. We also found out that they were the creators of the hot brown which is a staple in Kentucky. The location was very nice and not in the 4th street live noise center. It was located about 10 blocks from "Old Louisville" which has all of the Victorian Mansions. I would recommend anyone coming here to please stay at this charming hotel.

Room Tip: The higher up the better.

A beautifully decorated hotel with a stunning ballroom. We received a very warm welcome and check in & out was very efficient. We were fortunate enough to have been upgraded to a King room, which was a good size room. It is graded as only a four star hotel but bathrobes would be a nice touch as well as complimentary water.
We ate breakfast at J Graham Cafe and that was fine. We would deifinitely recommend eating in the English Grill, food was superb and staff greeted us by our name.
Staff were pleasant throughout, including bellboys (who went the extra mile to get us around town & to the airport)

The hotel is clean, staff friendly and attentive, but no restaurant on Sunday evening?

After driving 12 hours was not in the mood to go out again for a bite; this was very disappointing.

Also we are early risers when passing through Louisville, and would appreciate the lounge having coffee a little earlier than 630, as we like to get on the road around 5. Hot coffee in the lobby with go cups would be a nice touch

All in all, the best option for Louisville

Stayed here several times in the last few months...still a nice, old, hotel with good service, dependable pick-ups at SDF airport, and close to a lot in the downtown area...comfortable room, slow elevators, immense lobby/waiting area.

Cool, laid back hotel. Staff very friendly, food in bar good. Rooms very nice. We stayed on he Club Level, where contintenal breakfast and afternoon tea was served. Would highly recommend to stay on this floor. Very central to walk to local attractions. Would definately stay at this hotel again.

Walking through the 2nd level door to the lobby area from the parking garage was a step into southern hospitality at it's best. The beauty of the wood and furnishings was awesome. Everyone...everyone was helpful, yet, not intrusive. They remembered you by name at the desk. Even prepared a special surprise for my spouse's birthday and said, Happy Birthday, throughout our visit. It was our best ever hotel experience, bar none! The English Grill was a special treat...worth the $. And, I booked through Hotwire...a great deal and still treated like royalty. Will do it again.
