“Historic Downtown Hotel”

I love to get out of chain hotels and stay in boutique or historic hotels occassionally and this was a great experience. The hotel is beautiful--I parked in the garage ($16) and entered the hotel from an elevator--ike stepping back in time. Heavy, ornate woodwork and high ceilings. Check in was fast and pleasant. The lobby is grand and exquisite---pictures don't do it justice. Later there was a cart with mugs and hot apple cider for guests in the lobby--Superb touch.

The hallway to room was a bit worn but it is a old hotel--but again enjoyed all the woodwork. The room was large and spacious with a nice desk. The bath was also large (see pics) but the tub was a bit antiquated with the fixtures. I was surprised to see paper cups for coffee at a 4 star hotel. The room was great (comfy bed) but the wall was paper thin. I could hear all of the man's conversation next door and every cough--there was a connecting door so that may have made it worse. I had to cut the fan and tv on to mask the sound.

Restaurant very nice with exceptional service. I ordered the tofu steak with a salad and water--$42 which is more than i normally pay for tofu ;-) but the presentation was worth it--the taste and texture of the "steak" left a lot to be desired but glad that I tried it.

Hotel was easy to access and I would stay again--everyone should experience it at least once.

I had my doubts about The Brown Hotel but was pleasantly surprised. Built in 1923, some parts of the Brown were slightly worn but the architecture outweighed anything negative. The lobby took you back to an era of genteel southern charm with its overstuffed sofas, and ornate ceilings which soared above. Registration was flawless and I was given an instant upgrade to the Club level rooms which included happy hour and continental breakfast (both were outstanding. The Main St. cabernet was better than most, and the scones and biscuits and gravy in the am were to die for). My room was somewhat worn but the Dream Bed was excellent (no dips in the mattress). Rated as a 4 1/2 star hotel, I found the toilet paper and kleenex to be sub par but, otherwise, everything was top-notch. And lastly, the staff at the Brown went out of their way to make you feel welcomed. I will definitely stay there again if I am traveling through Louisville.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor.

This is a gorgeous old hotel with great new amenities. Was here for two days for a convention. Great food in both restaurants (you have to try the Hot Brown) and wonderful service. The rooms are large ( I stayed on the club floors 11, 12, 13) which are key accessed a concierge lounge on the 13th floor. Great beds, nice bathrooms and windows that open. The only issue which gave this a 3 vs 4 overall rating were the elevators. I don't know if they were having issues or if this is common but a typical elevator wait was 3 to 5 minutes (and that's a long time)!

Other then that - it was a great stay - would be cool if they put in a pool - but that's just me. I like to swim. Definately worth a try if you are in Louisville for a day or two.

Stayed at this hotel on a Saturday night. Staff were courteous and helpful; however, the room left much to be desired. The mattress was old and of poor quality; almost no water pressure in the shower; evidence of water damage on the walls and carpet; For the price I paid, I expected much better.

We visited the Brown Hotel in August for a friends' weekend, and were not disappointed. This hotel is beautifully restored and very convenient to 4th Street Live, if you like that sort of thing. If not, the Bluegrass Brewing Company is right across the street, and the bar at the Brown has a list of excellent bourbon cocktails and serves Hot Brown's until midnight. Yes, the room and furnishings are old, but what do people expect from a historic hotel? If you want brand new everything and modern furnishings then go to a Hampton Inn! This place has character, not to mention the ghosts! Overall, a fun and memorable place - highly recommended.

I recently attended a conference in Louisville. I met an old friend at the conference and we wanted to stay a little away from the tourist/convention center traffic. A Louisville friend suggested the elegant Brown. And it is. The hotel has been refurbished and brought back to the charm and dignity of the grand hotels from early decades. The staff is extremely helpful and pleasant. The rooms are clean, roomy, and pleasant. The English Dining Room is one of my favorites. Quiet, clubby, and with delicious food. If I get back to Louisville, I will once again stay at The Brown.

Room Tip: Designate a club level room or at least a higher floor room with reading chair and view of 4th Stree...

We stayed here for our 16 th wedding anniversary. We can say we ate a Hot Brown at the Brown. We were not disappointed. We ate dinner in the fancy restaurant there. The waiter even wrote us a thank you card for dining with them. So nice. We parked in the parking garage ourselves not a bad walk.
The rooms were updated with a huge closet, and bathroom.
We could hear the couple next door a little disturbing.
Overall we would go back, wish they had a spa.

Room Tip: The rooms on the street side are a little noise. To valet park was $19 a day i think.
