“Mostly excellent - service etiquette needs work”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 13, 2014

Very nice Bistro ambiance in downtown and the wine and food prices reflected the kind of value that Bistros should exhibit. It seemed like the owner was in the house as everything just seemed on point. The food was very good and the wine list value was excellent. We were having a business meeting over dinner; we did not want to rush. There were several empty tables around us so there was no pressure whatsoever to get us out of there. First the waitress tried to take away the appetizer before we had finished it - not good. We ordered another bottle of wine during our main course because we wanted to continue our discussion. The waitress asked about desert and I told her we just wanted to enjoy our wine while we were talking. A few minutes later she turned up with the bill and “ I’ll take that when you are ready’’. We had not decided on desert or coffee, we had just purchased another bottle of wine. If there are free tables and if we are still buying of thinking of buying why are you bringing the bill to get rid of us. It was very irritating. I told her to take the bill back and she did make some recovery by not bringing it until asked for it. The lesson - one size does not fit all with service. Some people want to bolt their food and run, some don’t , recognize it and serve accordingly.

“Decent food good service.”

The food was just okay. It wasn't bad, It just looked better than it tasted. I had a burger. It seemed to be missing something. That was the general consensus of the table.

Had dinner here with a large family group. nice atmosphere and service, 3 appetizers tried baked crab very good, Hummus, good, fried pickles, not so good, my wife had a spinach salad as her entrée, I think they forgot the dressing, a bit dry, I had the shrimp and grits okay but I have had better. the cheese cake for desert was good and huge, you'll need to get some help finishing this.

“Memorable visit”

Monday night meal at Bistro 301 was outstanding. We are in town for night while on way to Nashville. Local valet recommended the place and it did not disappoint! We use tripadvisor, yelp, urbanspoon, etc. to help us make better choices while traveling and at the end of the day time and location affect choices also. You will not regret eating here i assure you. Service at bar table (bartender Kenny) was better than i've had in long time. To be fair it was a quiet Monday night but between food (diablo, shrimp and grits, and mussel appetizer), service and drink quality, i'd eat there every week if i was a local! They use as much local product as they can and the chef is obviously a pro. Between the calories i consumed and the 20yr Pappy Van Winkle Kenny recommended i'll need some extra gym time this week but it was worth minute of it.
