Owner description: Since 2004, this is the way to discover the charms of Old Louisville, America's Grandest Victorian Neighborhood! Did you know it's also earned the reputation as "the most haunted neighborhood" in America? For many years, that’s what people have called this extensive preservation district filled with old mansions and strikingly beautiful homes in Kentucky’s largest city. Wherever you go in this eye-popping neighborhood, it seems that a haunted house is not far away. Or a haunted church, a haunted street corner, or a haunted park. So many ghostly legends and stories of supernatural activity have surfaced here that it's hardly surprising Old Louisville has gained the reputation as being the spookiest neighborhood in the entire country. Join a guide for this nightly tour that introduces you to the ghostly past and paranormal hotspots in America’s Most Haunted Neighborhood. Best enjoyed against the backdrop of gas lamps and hidden walking courts, this haunted history tour has received awards and accolades from national and international publications. Offered daily at 7:30 pm from March 15 to November 15 (reservations taken up to an hour before start time; call for times during the off-season), this walking tour takes approximately 90 minutes and costs $20 per person. This tour is based on David Domine’s book True Ghost Stories and Eerie Legends from America’s Most Haunted Neighborhood.

My husband and I absolutely love doing ghost walks and have done them in many different cities, but this one was one of our favorites. The stories are fairly mild and no where near as gruesome as what you might hear in, say, New Orleans, but still very entertaining. What really made this tour special, however, was our tour guide, David Domine. David has written many books about Old Louisville and is a wealth of information about this beautiful area. During this tour we got to hear several stories of supposed hauntings, but the best part was just hearing the history of so many of the houses (whether they included hauntings or not!). Highly recommend this tour to locals and tourists alike.

Every day at 11AM and 1PM Louisville Historic Tours offers a guided walk of "America's Most Exuberant Neighborhood" and if you like old houses and Victorian architecture, it is the tour for you. It takes an hour and a half and a very knowledgeable guide takes you to the undiscovered parts of the neighborhood and shows you the best examples of late 19th-century architecture. Not only that, you get to explore the heart of the neighborhood, St. James Court, and learn about the history and people who made this part of town. There are so many old houses and mansions that it is hard to keep them straight sometimes, but the $20 tour is worth it. Any time I go to a new city I want to see its historic houses and older neighborhoods, so this was the perfect tour for me. The neighborhood is beautiful and quiet and there are so many great examples of old architecture, you won't believe your eyes.

Just a mile south of downtown Louisville is an area known as "Old Louisville." It spreads out over 40 blocks and has more than a thousand old houses. Some of these houses are haunted. David Domine has written numerous books about this neighborhood. Every night at 7:30, year round, they offer an "America's Most Haunted Neighborhood" based on his most recent book of the same name. It costs $20 a person and takes about 90 minutes to complete. I highly recommend it, especially if you're lucky enough to have the author himself guide the tour. The guide takes you from one haunted location to the next, all the while revealing secrets about the fascinating history and architecture of the neighborhood. The hidden walking courts and their gas lamps are beautifully stunning and they put you in mind of places such as Savannah, New Orleans, or Charleston. The stories are well told and entertaining. This tour replaces the "Lantern Ghost Walk" and "Ghosts of Old Louisville Tour" that used to be offered by the same company. Anyone who likes old houses and ghost stories will want to take this tour. It is very easy to get to from downtown, just a straight shot up Fourth Street to Magnolia and then left a block, where you will see Central Park. The Old Louisville Information Center is there and that's where all the tours start and end.
