If you are a boxing fan or an Ali fan, this would be a great place to visit. There are lots of short movies throughout the FIVE FLOORS of exhibits. I'm neither, so this wasn't my favorite part of our trip, but it was OK.
Good plan: (1) Park in the garage of the Ali Museum for $9/day, (2) walk a few blocks to the Kentucky Show in the Center for Performing Arts, (3) lunch, (4) walk a few blocks to the Slugger Museum for a couple of hours, (5) walk back to the Ali Museum for the rest of the afternoon.

Wow, this place is huge!

Allow plenty of time to peruse. It combines a lot of different stuff, biography of Ali specifically, some larger things on race and the events of his times, and a lot on boxing too.

The intro video is well done, and a nice scene setter for how they view his contributions.

It's a very self-centered place, as you'd expect, and a lot of the items are so chock full of info even the most attentive visitor will be feeling a little ADD. These things, and the general design remind me a lot of the Clinton Library in Little Rock, probably designed around the same time period. The state of Kentucky have 5 million to built this place and it shows, very fancy.

Mostly reading and video/audio items, but there are a couple fun boxing interactive exhibits where you can shadow box or follow a video to learn some basic boxing technique.

I visited the Muhammad Ali Center in July of 2008. It was a wonderful experience. The center showcases some the most poignant points of Ali's life. I particularly enjoyed the photography and the interactive boxing exhibits. An hour and a half could get you through the whole center at a leisurely pace.
I was also very impressed by the fact that the museum didn't focus only on his boxing career but also on his humanitarian efforts.
This is well worth the visit especially if you're looking for teachable moments about sports, history, life, change. Take the kids, buy some souvenirs!

This museum hits you hard right off the bat with an engaging movie done in a uniquely stylish way. The stories that you will hear and read about will blow you away and the shear humanity that is expressed in some of the exhibits will move your soul.

Layout wise it flows well and keeps you engaged with motion sensing videos and interactive activities mixed in with educational events for people of all ages.

If you are in Louisville this should be first on your list for anyone of any age or race.

I had an amazing visit to the Muhammad Ali yesterday. It was $9 for an adult ticket and it was fantastic value. Only problem was we arrived at 2pm and i could have spent the whole day there! The facilities and technology were the most modern and advanced i have ever seen (esp the boxing ring that played a video of Muhammad's story - see pictures). I was truely moved by the wall of hopes and dreams as well. I am not a big boxing fan, and before my visit, wouldn't have called myself a big Ali fan, but the journey the museum takes you through will truely amaze you. It had lots of interactive exhibits, but wouldn't really be that interesting for young kids. It is definetly a must see!!! I'd give it 5 stars!! And do not judge it by any brochures you find - it totally exceeded it!
