Pride of ownership and attention to detail make this little neighborhood spot worth a trip. First time there enjoyed a very leisurely and inexpensive breakfast and a long conversation but was never made to feel like we were taking up space. Second time for a fish sandwich on a busy Saturday evening. To my pleasant surprise, a side of tomato soup was exceptional. Atmosphere is casual, all ages in attendance. Service is friendly, food is fresh and hot, prices are very reasonable. Plan on being a semi-regular in 2014 and looking forward to trying the rolled oysters on my next visit.

During the week, this neighborhood fish spot is a reliable favorite.

But on Sunday, the restaurant owner turns the shop over to his son who turns it into a one-day treat straight off of Bourbon Street. With New Orleans-style beignets, andouille sausages, omelets with prime ingredients and fried potato cakes, Cafe Beignet is my family's favorite after-Church brunch spot.

Order the Beignets of the day with fresh fruit and an egg-in-a-hole and you've got a great meal for under $8 bucks.

They serve a unique kind of fried fish called "Green River Style" that has a light breading and is much less greasy that most fried fish sandwiches. If you like bean soup or clam chowder, both are excellent choices for a side item. It's not the place to go for ambiance but if a great sandwich is what you want, go to the Fish House.

A fun informal place staffed by some lovely people but none of the seafood had been near the sea for quite a while. It was a shock to find every single part of the seafood platter was deep fried. We called it "KFS" (Kentucky Fried Seafood) but with charm!
